Visiting Gainesville - Any Hotel Recommendations?

I will be visiting UF with my son in a couple of weeks. I have not been back to Gainesville in about 12 years and am looking for accomodations close to Campus.

I know there is a Holiday Inn close to University and 13th street. Also there appears to be one inside Reitz Union. Any opinions on these hotels? I would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you folks.

Oh yes, we are coming from Dallas and my son is a die-hard gator. He is intent on attending UF.

The hotel inside of Reitz Union is nice and offers pretty much the same accomodations as any local hotel. However, I assume hotel amenities don't really matter since you will be spending the majority of your time around the campus. I would suggest staying at the hotel on campus rather than any other local hotels. It's too bad college isn't in session right now so you could get the true campus experience.

By the way where in Dallas are you from?
I grew up in Farmers Branch.

Days Inn is like $29 a night, LOL.

We always stay at the UF Hilton. It is probably the only "nicer" hotel in the UF area and I am kinda quirky about hotels. It is on the western side of the campus, near southwest rec center. I have heard that the Paramount is ok. We have other friends who routinely stay at the Courtyard Marriott by I-75.

We've stayed at Country Inn & Suites, right next to the Cracker Barrel restaurant.

Thank you for all the replies.

I was looking at the Holiday Inn and the reviews though old, mentioned it as being in not such a good shape. If it is decent, I would rather stay there. I believe school will be in session about the time we get there. I was concerned that Reitz Union being on Campus may be too quiet in the evening when we are back in the room and I did want him to get an idea about restaurants and night life(??) around campus.

Classes begin the 6th

i chose the paramount plaza..because they offer a free shuttle to and from UF..i also read the reviews and it seems to be nice...hopefully i wont be too disappointed
