Visiting Midwest Schools - Bloomington

I'm going to visit all the midwest schools I got into during my spring break (3rd week in april). I'll probably only be visiting Indiana, and Wisconsin, and perhaps Illinois if I have time. When I was looking into it, it looks like indianapolis is the closest airport to Bloomington which is over an hour away, with shuttles running to the campus 9 times a day. Does anyone have experience with doing this? Is it a hassle? Do any current students get annoyed with the shuttles when going home for breaks?

Anyway, is there anything I should do while I am in the bloomington area? I talked to a teacher at my school who is an alumni recruit for Indiana and he made the campus seem pretty dull. I know its a top 5 campus for looks and that it has a great atmosphere but he made it seem like all there is to do is party and drink.

Also any information on the Wisconsin - Madison community? If anyone cares to compare and contrast the two campuses as I know Madison is more of a city campus than Bloomington. Thanks.

Indianapolis is the closest airport and the shuttles are just dandy. Whether students complain about them isn't really the issue for your visit. I'd evaluate this for yourself when you choose to go to school in a small town an hour away from the airport. As for things to do: go see a lime stone quarry for that is the other thing Bloomington is famous for.

or you could investigate the hazardous sites:

LOL - well Hazmat's comment made me laugh. Unfortunately, contamination is everywhere in the country. There is plenty to do at Indiana besides drink and party! It is the most beautiful school in the country imho and with 35,000 students, you are sure to find your niche. You will find everything under the sun....the theater and music scene is amazing....you could not possibly attend or participate in all of the cultural, athletic or social opportunitites that exist in 4 years. Go see for yourself....the ride to the airport is easy but it is 45 minutes to 1 hour. You need to plan on this.

Good luck!

My son has used the shuttle several times, and he has never complained about it. You can make a reservation online, if you like.

There are usually lots of events on campus--especially things like music and theater. With the big campus, it may take awhile just to explore. There is a nice museum on campus, if you like that kind of thing. I'm not sure what else is around, since we were only in town briefly.
