If you've gone for a visit, where did you stay?

We stayed at a Sheraton near the fairgrounds for all 4 years our S was there. I think they have a discount for pomona visitors. here is the info
Sheraton Suites Fairplex
600 S. McKinley Avenue
Pomona, CA 91768
(800) 722-4055
(909) 622-5042 (local)
Suites have bedroom and living room. Pool, spa and restaurant available. Shuttle service to/from Ontario Airport and the Claremont Colleges. (10 minutes drive to campus)

The Sheraton Suites Fairplex is pretty nice (we stayed there last year for a Preview Day) and Doubletree has taken over the Claremont Inn (which I think is the closest to the campuses). I have not stayed at the Doubletree yet but plan to if we come in April for admitted students day.

Doubletree may also have a special rate for Claremont Colleges also:

I've stayed at the Doubletree and it's definitely the nicest place close to the colleges. It's about a 5-10 minute drive from campus and the hotel is really nice.

As a student, just call the admissions office and they will get you up with a student host, a mealplan while you're on campus, and give you a card to get into academic and residential buildings.

Doubletree has been done up and is nice now. It's "walking distance" from campus (meaning that it IS definitely walkable, but is far enough away that I wouldn't actually recommend foregoing a vehicle). My family generally stays at the Pomona Fairplex because the rooms have pull-out sofas in a separate room, which is just easier when the whole family is traveling together.

I can't strongly enough recommend overnight visits (esp. on a Thurs., which gives an actual taste of campus life, for better or for worse).

Have a good trip!

Since I'm a parent, I'll have to buy a clue; why visit on a Thursday night?

I think that's when party-time starts on some campuses.

We stayed at thre DoubleTree also. Very convenient and good cookies!

Thursday night will give you the most varied scene of college. There will be some people who have late/no class on Friday, who will give you a chance to see the party scene. But at the same time you get a realistic view of the type of work that students are doing on a weeknight. Also, Thursday is an easy night for student hosts, as exams are rarely held on Fridays, and they don't have to worry about compromising their weekend plans.

Exactly as brassmonkey said. It's the best possible cross-section of campus life, both academic and social, and the most convenient time for current students.

DoubleTree is the way to go. I stayed there two nights ago. lol

They give you amazing cookies!
