Visiting Question

Does visiting improve your chances of admission? I’ve heard that expressing interest in Penn does help. I understand that it would only help a very little if at all, but I’m just curious if I should get too attachted for nothing.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

I'd think it'd only help if you found out some things to mention in your My Penn essay or during an interview. But other than that I don't think it helps you any.

Visiting, by itself, does nothing.

Incorporating that into an essay, will.

What if while you're visiting, you save a child from oncoming traffic by doing a summersault into the open road, grabbing the kid and successfully hurl it to its mother while the car crushes your legs paralyzing you for LIFE....all of this is witnessed by the dean of admissions, your interviewer and anyone else who has a say in prospective students.

Almost everyone who visits, however, incorporates their visit into their Why Penn? so yes, visiting is beneficial

I think that demonstrated interest is important to Penn. A visit is not the only way to show it though.

I think visiting demonstrates interest too, but its mostly for yourself. What I did the week before i visited was to email the director of admissions at SEAS and she emailed back and suggested some classes I could go to. On the morning I was suppose to sit in on some classes, I went into Towne and just asked if the director was available so I could chat with her. luckily she was there and not busy so I got to have a word with her before running off to classes. I think that at least showed something. I think she remembered my name too....most exciting thing for me that day.

also, visiting was the one thing that convinced me to apply to penn ed

Yeah, it was my visit that made me decided to do ED, too.

To bad, I was gonna visit in march, ebcuase my dad had a meeting there...but it was changed to san diego....crap, and who knows when I'll be able to head out and visit penn....damn living in costa rica tends to screw these things up.

I would say that if you live a reasonable distance from the school they may wonder about it if you never visited. Long distance would certainly be taken into account.

I think visiting shows your interest in Penn. If you live in California, and visit Penn, it must be high on your list. However, unlike some skills, Penn isn't going to reject you if you never visit. It's just another factor that could play a factor in differentiating you. Mostly it's a good source of info for a very important part of your application...the essay.

Well, I live 25 minutes away. Also, they ask for your picture on their application incase they remember you.

i saved this kids life and stetson happened to be right next to me...
