We will be at HMC Thursday and Friday and will be visiting Caltech on Monday and maybe Tuesday (flying out from LAX Tuesday night). We're staying in a Claremont hotel the entire time and we really don't have any other plans. Are there any must-dos other than an overnight visit for my son, which is already scheduled, and the tour and info session for me, which is also already scheduled? Mudd is the number one favorite, so we really want to check it out.

I might hang out in the library rather than bring my own computer on the airplane - is the library ok for non-students? I already called and was told it's open to the public, but is it too crowded? Are there enough computers?

Where's a good cheap-but-better-than-fast-food place to eat in Claremont?

By library, you mean the Honnold-Mudd? There are computers available on level two of the Mudd section, near the services desk, and I’ve never seen that area very crowded. I don’t think you would receive any second glances as a non-student.

Pizza N Such is pretty good, I think. Here it is: [Pizza N Such - Google Maps](<a href=“Google Maps”>Google Maps)

The overnight visit will pretty much get you covered - whoever he’s staying with will probably take him places and give him more ideas about where to go / what to do.

As for village food, Saca’s is the best! It’s mediterranean food and fairly cheap ($6-10 I think) but definitely better than fast food quality. Yogurtland is a good option for dessert (load all the flavors and toppings you want, it’s priced by the ounce!), but its not really all that close to Saca’s.

We’re partial to Podge’s, aka Claremont Juice Company. It’s on Yale between 1st and 2nd Streets, just south of Pizza’n’Such (which is also good – I love their crispy chicken salad). Podge’s is a sandwich and smoothie shop. They’re kind of slow and the sandwiches are not cheap by my non-California-resident standards, but the food is very fresh, very good, and very filling.

While you’re there, pick up a copy of the Muddraker (student newspaper) from December 2009 (most recent issue). It includes a review of a pasta shop that sounded very good and has a special on Thursdays.
