Visiting this weekend

Hey guys,
I'm visiting Dartmouth this weekend...any suggestions for what I should definitely check out/do (besides the campus tour, which I'm taking)?

How long are you staying for? Where are you staying?

Try to meet up with some students and hang out with them to get a feel for what real life at Dartmouth is like. There's tons of stuff going on- a Collis 'Up All Night,' a 'Bhangra and Reggaeton' dance at Fuel, a men's lacrosse game, an AGORA SAT discussion forum/dinner, an engineering lecture at the med school.... depending on what you're interested in, you can do a number of things.

Looks as if you are visiting many many campuses these next few days and the unfortunate part is that for those you visit on the weekend only, you will not have an opportunity to sit in on many, if any, classes. So bear that in mind when you visiting - you get an entirely different impression on any given campus depending on when you are there. You probably will not have a chance at any overnights with students either, so try to put yourself in situations at each campus where you might at least observe if not actually converse with students other than your tour guide. Not always possible, but it helps you gain an impression.

Yeah, I'm visiting five schools in a week...unfortunately, I don't have time to do any overnights this time. I'm just trying to get a first impression for each school (Dartmouth, Brown, UCLA, Ann-Arbor, and Duke), but I will definitely return to stay overnight so I can talk to more students (and partyyyy- of course :)).. anyways, I don't think I can do many of the things that you mentioned, RasberrySmoothie, unless I revisit.

Oh, and as far as talking to students goes...how exactly am I supposed to do it? I know it's important to get a feel for the school and everything, but I don't want to weird anybody out by randomly stopping them :)

OMG-poor baby, 5 schools in a week!!!!!! Well, have fun at all of them, and I hope that you make the right choice for youself :)

lol yup...and I that's after I cut Columbia and NYU out (I might visit them over a long weekend b/c I'm in Western NY). Oh, and we're driving to all of them except UCLA b/c, among other reasons, my parents want me to get lots of practice before my road test in May...it's gonna be a loong car ride :)

I want to make the most out of my visits b/c I think that they will really influence my decision (honestly, though, I am currently leaning towards Dartmouth :) )

ooo I'm leaning towards Dartmouth (its an epic battle between Dartmouth and Cornell) :) Good luck on ur road test; just sit back, relax, and enjoy the rideS :)

Thanks, and congrats on getting in!

You probably will not weird anyone out but I can understand your reservation. However, you can always chat via email after the fact - certainly Dartmouth and I believe most schools have students you can email questions to (<a href="http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/generalinfo/stulife/dtales.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/generalinfo/stulife/dtales.html</a> ). If nothing else, just observe the students you do see, how they interact with each other, and ask anyone for help if you end up doing some exploring of the campus on your own)

I seriously wouldn't worry about just randomly asking someone, as long as they don't look busy. We all know it's "that time of year" where a lot of HS'ers are visiting :D

In addition to what's mentioned above, I'd suggest talking to a prof or two in a department you're interested in, if there happen to be any around. Ditto for campus activities.

I would be so excited if a random prospie stopped to ask me questions about Dartmouth, and I feel like a lot of students would feel the same way.

i'll be visiting dartmouth soon...hopefully it's the clincher that pushes me towards matriculation. I'm totally leaning towards dartmouth :) anyways, i'll be going to dimensions with my parents...i'm assuming they will have to book a hotel while i stay in a dorm, right? Also, I was wondering how long most incoming froshies stay before heading back home.
