I’ll be visiting UCSD the week of February 20th with S2, who is a high school junior. He is a math/science/sports guy.

I am looking for recommendations as to what to see, where to eat, and anything that is happening that week around the UCSD campus. What are the areas where students live off campus? We are doing the usual tour and will likely visit at least one student we know. I am interested in getting a feel for student life at UCSD as opposed to sightseeing in San Diego.

If any current students have recommendations, that would be appreciated.

If students live off campus, they mostly live in Costa Verde by UTC or off of Nobel Drive. Student life at UCSD is very low key and it's an incredibly quiet campus. Maybe you would want to go to a basketball game at RIMAC, but crowds are pretty small. The typical tourist usually works his/her way from the Jacobs Engineering School, up the snake path that leads to the library. UCSD has very few parties because (1) students are pretty mellow, and (2) Tijuana is where a lot of people go to socialize.

Come on a tuesday to library walk in front of the Geisel Library between 10 and 2...farmers market :).
