Hi guys,
I have to make a decision in a week! And I know there are hundreds of discussions comparing UCs together but I just want to know what’s it like being a UCSD student?! I’m a city girl and I really like the city and I want to know what UCSD students do on their free time and on weekends. Is it easy to move around and go places? And how are clubs and organizations on campus? Basically describe a day in life of a SD student!
It really all depends on what you want to spend your time doing. If you don’t mind taking the bus, it isn’t too difficult to get around places in San Diego! Your student fees pay for you to use the bus, so at the beginning of the year, you get a sticker on your ID card to use the buses for “free”. There are plenty of nice places (malls, restaurants, etc.) to go within the SD area. I’m not really a beach person, but Iknow quite a few people do go to the beach on their free time, there are multiple beaches nearby. During week 0 (before classes start), a whole bunch of clubs will be out on library walk so you can check out whichever ones you’re interested in. Keep in mind that UCSD students are pretty serious about their studies, so many people spend a lot of time in the library. Honestly, it all depends on your interests, who you know, and how lucky you are. UCSD is not a good match for me, but I know plenty of people who love it here. I know this is cliche, but pick the college that is the right fit for you! Good luck!
Thank you! that does help!
I’m a city girl too, so I know exactly how you feel! I went to go visit UCSD and stayed down there for a week and there was plenty to do. I don’t have a car so I took their metro system. It was pretty cheap and I took it from downtown to the San Ysidro border. I went to a few parties with some students with SDSU. As long as you know somebody with a car then you’ll have an active social life for sure.
