So I scheduled a trip to WashU for both a tour and an on campus interview. I was informed, however, that I should also try and coordinate a time to meet with a professor in a topic I am interested in.

The problem is that I have lots of interests, but I don't know much about any of them yet. For example if I meet with a philosophy professor and he/she asks about my favorite philosopher..uhh Plato?!

ya so does anyone have an experience like that? I would like to meet with a professor, but no if I am going to sound like an idiot.

Also has anyone ever had an on campus interview? How did it go?

I never met with a professor when I came to visit, and honestly it surprises me that they would tell you that. The professors here are all wonderful and very helpful to their students, but they’re very busy people at the same time. But if you do set up a meeting, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. you come to college to learn, so its not unexpected to not know much. Unless the professor teaches something that you should have learned in high school, they’re not going to expect you to be very knowledgable in the subject.

For me, the on campus interview was really low key. I met with my admissions officer in his office, and he asked me 2-3 questions before asking if I had questions for him. So we pretty much just talked for a half hour about WashU. I think it was more of a conversation because they wanted to see what sort of person I was and whether my personality type was a good fit for WashU.
