Viterbo Callbacks?

My D auditioned with a group in Dallas, got very nice feedback, then received a letter requesting her to see them again at the Chicago Unifieds. I’m just confused as to why she is auditioning twice. I’ve emailed the gentleman who conducted the auditions in Dallas, but I’m guessing they are all off for Christmas break. Any Viterbo students/parents that can shed some light on this?

Thanks

My D is in the Viterbo MT program…Not sure about the auditions in Dallas…the National Unifieds in Chicago will have the head of the department and another department person conducting the audition. My daughter auditioned there last Feb. Perhaps the auditions in Dallas were to receive callbacks only and no decision or offer was going to be made…
…If only one person saw your daughter in Dallas I’m guessing they want others to see her as well…Decisions are made by committee…there will be on campus auditions in March and shortly thereafter, offers will be made…

The whole process can be confusing and not much communication goes on between you and the schools…My daughter received a letter indicating Viterbo was highly interested about three weeks after the Chicago audition. Her offer came in late March…I believe Viterbo lets you know if you are not going to be considered as well. At least you are not left wondering. There is anxiety and uncertainty in deciding how many auditions and applications you should schedule/fill out knowing that the programs take so few and you have to play a numbers game. Additionally, you know so little about the school or the city that you don’t know if you should pursue the program or not. You end up relying on College Confidential to give you some direction.
Viterbo is a very pretty campus located in a very nice town in Wisconsin. The city is located along the Mississippi River and is quite nice. The program is very good. The school is small and if you want that personal touch and small class sizes Viterbo is a great choice. There are kids from around the country in the Theatre program that give it a nice cross section flavoring… I wish you the best in your search…Break a leg…P.S. They start Spring Semester Jan 17th…You are right…they have been on break…

I agree. My child auditioned this year and loved the school. Everyone was so friendly and the town of La Crosse is wonderfully quaint. The current students made them (my child went with a friend who also auditioned) feel welcome and genuinely interested in them as prospective students. All around lovely environment to grow and mature in my opinion.

thanks to both of you for your replies! Rick Walters was at the audition in Dallas and my D really, really liked him. She said, “he was just chill.” And she really liked the overview he gave about the program at Viterbo. I have a close friend that lives in Wisconsin and I have visited her a few times over the years, but she lives in the Lake Geneva area, so it’s not exactly the same territory, but we do know that Wisconsin is beautiful. My friend did tell me that there is more than one college in LaCrosse which certainly makes it even that much more appealing. The weather will definitely be a culture shock…we are from Texas…but if she’s successful she will be working in all types of climates. I think Viterbo would be a great fit for my D and I hope that they will feel the same.

Rick Walters is the head of the Musical theatre dept. and he will probably have a voice instructor with him in Chicago. Her name is Karla Hughs. She also performs as a featured opera soloist in the summer. She teaches musical theatre singers and specializes in belting.

The weather certainly can be a factor but the campus is very small so walking to class is no big deal…Kids from warm weather may even enjoy the snow. There currently is a girl from Texas in the program plus 3 from Las Vegas…I haven’t talked to them about winter because we haven’t been there since October. The leaves in the Fall colors were georgeous. Kinda feels like Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

One of the benefits to Viterbo and the area that is not so obvious…

My D auditioned at Chicago Unifieds with Rick Walters and Dana McConnell. She says they were very encouraging and calmed her jitters. Everyone we have talked to at Viterbo has been great and we plan to visit the school as soon as we can figure out our schedule. My D is interested in the BFA in Musical Theatre and in Acting and it will be helpful for her to sit in on some different classes to help her make up her mind.
