What books or kind of books should I be reading to increase my vocab for the SAT?

I'm pretty bad at vocab, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wuthering Heights
Frankenstein

And pick up a couple Dickins

Jane Eyre is a really good book, in my opinion, and has plenty of great vocab, not to mention a very interesting plot.

eg: inanition, penurious, transient, surfeit, anathema, sequester, gregarious...

Are word lists any good to memorize?

Study Direct Hits...its amazing

I actually just did word lists when I was cramming...they worked for me.

But if you're the type that word-lists just confuse/screw up more, then you might as well go pick up a good book =/

meadow36 is right - Direct Hits is amazing...lots of literary examples...Great Gatsby has a number of good SAT vocab words. I love the image of Jay Gatsby standing aloof and staring silently at the green light across the bay.

all right

two different scenarios

if the test is only two weeks ago, i highly recommend you study direct hits

if not,

then i'd suggest these books:

anna karenina

the brothers karamazov

the scarlet letter

lol ^ did you mean two weeks from now?

yeah thats what i meant

what is direct hits?

Here is the 1st Hit Parade Vocab of 3.
SAT Hit Parade List One

Also, go look in the sticky thread on how to study for the vocab and a poister posted free spark notes novels which you can read online and they are reasonably short.

abdul0393 - Direct Hits is a really good vocabulary book. You can see it on Amazon. DH really helped me prepare for the PSAT. See the thread "Which Vocab Book/List performed best on the Oct 08 PSATs?" on this page for more information about DH.
