Okay, when I went to the Bastian institute they not only said I had Acid Reflux, but also I noticed the top portion of my vocal chords won't come together. They're "bowed" of sorts. But only at the top of my chords, which he said might be causing me to sound breathy but "probably not real noticable to anyone"

He VERY much brushed it aside, but what does this mean exactly. He said, "In time you will probably learn to develope the muscles to bring the chords fully together." HOW?

Has anyone heard of this?

You may need to find a voice teacher who really understands the mechanics of singing who can take what the doctor said and work with you in dealiing with it a healthy way. In what part of the country are you located?

This is amazing! My D was JUST diagnosed with this last week by a specialist in NYC at Cornell Medical Center. He said that her vocal cords did not come together after particularly high notes, but she has no nodes. He said that very often this situation produces nodes. She has the breathiness also. He gave her instructions to give to her private voice instructor at her university to work on controlling the problem.

She has not had until now in college much vocal instruction, because it was not available in our area. This is part of the problem, because since her vocal cords do not close I guess automatically as they should, she has to "learn" to do it. I certainly wish that we had known this enough before her college auditions last year to have her work on it, but everything ended great so I guess this is the way it was meant to be.

He also said she may have mild reflux, so gave her medication to try to see if it helps.

PM me for more info if you want.
