I'll start. Daughter passed her prescreen for CCM. Got the email today.

So is this thread only for vocalists?

It is a re-hash of the old and very long thread that already exists. I assume that the people that posted there last year were vocalists but … who knows? If you want to shout out about your or your beloved’s accomplishments do so here, there, and everywhere you like. Whatever the instrument. WooooHoooo!

Well, many people are already posting in the thread called “Prescreening Results”…so we kind of have duplicate threads going on here…

Ok Carimom. This was your suggestion. But hey, thanks for the congrats… People can post where ever they want. Who cares?! We’re just trying to give kids and parents a timeline right?

I think the point of having a comprehensive thread is for people to be able to keep track of the timeline (it’s particularly useful in subsequent years.) If you want to separate vocalists from instrumentalists, that’s fine, as the timing and other details may be different. I don’t think it’s so much about congratulations as about keeping a list for reference.

K. Thanks.

Any time! :)

Vocal prescreen reults for d vocalist for Boco and nec.

Maybe we should keep this one just for vocal then, in light of the title? And instrumentalists post in the “Prescreening Results” thread. Just a thought, to avoid duplication.

A thread was begun for VP majors, undergrad and grad, last year because the schools were running behind on notifications and we were using it to help keep track. Because of the comprehensive list that we kept, kids were able to determine whether or not they needed to contact schools to see if there was a problem, or if they should wait a day for their results to show up.
My D figured out that one school had forgotten to send her a supplement that was their responsibility to disburse, but she wouldn’t have figured that out without the help of the CC parents and students who posted here. I think it would be helpful if we had one thread for instrumentalists and another for singers just to simplify things.
Be aware that, if things continue as they were last year (2012-2013), pre-screen notifications were all over the place concerning timing and it did not improve when it came to actual acceptances/rejections. For grad students, official notification date was supposed to be March 1st, but things were still drifting in on 3/15 and even as late as into early April! Considering that deposits had to be in by 4/15, it was nerve-wracking and frankly, quite inconsiderate when you realize that those dates certainly didn’t sneak up on the admissions committees. There were schools that lost good candidates because kids accepted bids from schools who had their act together- it was simply more comfortable to accept “school A” on 4/14 rather than try to deal with the hassle of waiting and hoping to hear from “school B” who was still shuffling papers on that date. I hope things go much smoother this year!

Thanks, Mezzo’sMama, for the clarification! And also the helpful information about notifications. I always thought all notifications from a school would be released at the same time–but I see already this year that doesn’t seem to be happening. Definitely hoping also that acceptance notifications are more timely this year than what you described happening last year!

Oh and Dradsmom, congrats to you and your daughter! :)

Is anyone else waiting on USC Thornton? I’m hoping it might be today, based on last year’s date.

A violist on another thread reported passing the prescreening at USC, but doesn’t indicate when the notification came. Perhaps they are sending them out on different days? Still waiting on USC here as well.

I’d say that most schools do their applications in batches… at times they might choose to update the rejected candidates (or the accepted candidates) first. However, I think that it is quite unlikely that they will update everyone’s together.

How does the acceptance work? Do the conservatories have an organisation to determine whether you have accepted a place somewhere else already (considering that the conservatories seem to be functioning independently unlike a cukas/ucas system in the UK)? Or can I just take all offers?

Not quite sure what you mean by “all offers”, hujkycm. Do you mean pre-screening results? If you mean actual acceptance by a school, then, NO, you cannot accept more than one offer. You will be given a deadline date by which you must reply, and you must choose one school.

It did appear that in previous years USC released all pre-screening results on the same day, but I might be wrong.

Thanks for the info Clarimom. We were told at an event we attended last month that the results would be out “right before Christmas”, so maybe they’re starting to come out. I’ll post here when we hear something.

Hi Clarimom, yes I meant that in the case of multiple acceptance offers, how are the conservatories aware whether we have accepted an offer from someplace else?

oops*

hujkycm, again, you can only accept ONE offer. I suppose you could try to cheat the system and accept more than one…but it is my understanding that if it is discovered that you did this, conservatories can rescind their offers and you could very well be left out in the cold. It’s just a matter of ethics. The rule is you weigh your offers and choose which one you will attend. Not to mention often you have to pay a deposit when you accept the offer–so you’d be out money as well as that would be non-refundable. After you accept an offer, then you decline the offers from the other institutions.
