Vocal Performance

Hi…Can anyone tell me about the SU music program. I understand that the MT is hot there but My D is deciding between JMU, BOCO and SU for vocal performance. Any feedback about the vocal program would really be appreciated. How is the social life on campus? I am hearing that it is a commuter campus on the weekend, is that true? I am looking for anybody in the know. Everything we are hearing are from other college students and not from SU students. Thanks.

I can tell you that my daughter has taken private voice lessons from one of the teachers at Shenandoah and she has been wonderful. That said, it is Winchester. It is a fine town, but I’m not sure how I’d feel if I were going to school here. That said, my own daughter did not want to apply there (but we live here). The only other thing I will tell you is that many of the people in this town feel SU takes “everyone” into the program. I cannot say this first hand. I know they did have many – upwards of 60 MT students last year. If I remember correctly I think my daughter’s singing teacher said they were cutting the #'s. They felt it wasn’t responsible of them to train so many for so few jobs. Best of luck on the decision.

I honestly don’t know much about the vocal performance program, but I can tell you that the MT program has been revamped and they only accepted 24 students for next year (we knew at least two incredible students who were denied, so the bar has been raised significantly).
