Voice Teachers at Hartt

I've been reading posts relating to Music majors for several months now and have found the discussions and advice extremely valuable. This is my first post since I'm more of a viewer than active participant. After the long haul, my D has decided to attend Hartt as a vocal performance major (soprano) in the fall. She is particularly interested in pursuing a career in opera. We're now faced with finding the best teacher for her and don't have the time, opportunity or financial ability to have trial lessons with every one. We would however like to meet with 2 or 3 members of the faculty. Does anyone have comments, suggestions or advice about the voice faculty at Hartt? I know a big part of the search is finding someone she clicks with, but any help narrowing down the field would be very much appreciated.

Sorry, I can’t really help you much, as I’m in a similar position regarding Hartt (haven’t received a decision yet), but I was just wondering when your daughter auditioned and when she received her decision. I do know that the Hartt opera is excellent.

She auditioned early for non-binding early decision so she was accepted in December. We have still not received the final acceptace package with financial aid information. I was told they would be mailed out on April 1. Best of luck!

Are you sure that they will charge you for trial lessons? My son had a saxophone lesson with the professor there and she did not charge him. He also arranged a “shadow day” with a grad student (by emailing the professor) and he’ll be spending the day there during his school break in April. That was supposed to help him decide, but our aid letter arrived in the mail this morning and it helped make the decision a lot easier!

Thank you sillyp for the info. I’ve heard it’s up to each teacher individually as to whether or not they charge, but I’d rather assume we will have to pay than be caught by surprise. We haven’t gotten our mail yet today so I’m glad to hear at least some packages have gone out. Congrats, it sounds like you got good news!

UniverseKnows, PM me with your questions re the teachers your D is considering. Some of these discussions are better conducted in private!

Hi Mezzo’sMama. I’m new at this whole thing and not familiar with the ins and outs. I just tried to send a PM and was told I cannot because I don’t have enough posts. Is there another way around this?

UniverseKnows: If you click on Mezzo’sMama’s name, a list of options will come up. One of them is to send her an email. You’ll have to do that until you post a few more times. Not sure why they do that. It must have something to do with spam.

Thanks again. Will try that now : )

UniverseKnows, I am including the Hartt acceptance and decision over at the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1427644-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2013-a-38.html</a> and the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1457188-master-list-music-school-final-decisions-fall-2013-a-2.html</a></p>

If she had any other acceptances that you would like to tell us about, we would love to add those to the list even if she will not attend any of them.

I just saw your posting on the master list of acceptances. Congratulations to you and your daughter!
