Volunteer work for colleges

Hi everyone! This is my first time on CC.
I decided I wanted to start a non-profit organization to reduce poverty levels in India. I made a facebook page and a website, but then realized I have to A LOT more work! I have to send articles of incorporation, the organization's constitution, the by-laws, etc. I only have one other person working with me, and I was wondering if this was even worth all the trouble.
Will I even standout in a stack of other college applicants? Bottom line is, I don't know if starting a non-profit organization is worth all the trouble if I don't standout against other college applicants,

I don’t see the point of starting your own organization, in general. I’m sure there are plenty of organizations with more resources than you that already do this, and you could just help them.

If you actually care about the cause sure.

I say go for it. Even if you’re going to initially do it for colleges, overtime you’ll forget about colleges and instead find happiness in that you helped some in need, and you won’t feel a pain to continue working for your non profit.
