when is the best time to start volunteering, i am the kind of guy who waits till the last second and rushes it all. like i am on summer break(going into junior year) right now and i am thinking about doing voluntering on the summer after my junior year.. Am i wrong to do this?

Plus in St.louis looking for volunteer service is like looking for a job.. i tried 6 hospitals already and none of them are accepting volunteers currently.

how many hours of community service did u do so far?

I think the earlier you start the better. That way you can show your committment to an organization and it gives you more time to try it out and see if that area really is your passion. If you wait until the summer after your junior year, you only have a few months to volunteer before you start your university applications.

Since the hospitals in your area currently aren't looking for volunteers, you could look at other places for medically-related positions. You could try seniors'/nursing homes, the Red Cross, blood donations, etc. I've also heard that really any position that shows that you care about people and you enjoy working with/helping people is good.

hehe i dont really care about the passion because currently i have passion for nothing, so im hoping being a medical proffesional will help me gain passion i never started out with.

b/w thnx for ur advice, i forgot about red cross and blood donations, gonna go apply

FYI, the volunteering done in high school doesn't count towards medical school.

yea but u need it for pre med school right?

No, if you are trying to get into a combined program yes. Normal college no. It does help you get in, but not for pre-med in normal college. Its really something that you should do because you like to do it. You do need it for med school, although not officially. But don't worry about that until your out of hs.

can volunteering sort of count as an ec? i don't have any leadership positions in clubs, so i'm hoping my volunteer work will work in its place.
