Im currently trying to get in a medical school. Im a freshman but im going to a 4 year college next semester with a junior standing so im a little behind. Would it be better for me to work at a doctors office or actually volunteer at a hospital and get a federal work study job? My question is pretty much what looks better on a medical school application.

Either one. Extracurricular activities are probably the fourth most important thing in a medical school application (behind GPA, MCAT, LOR). Just pick an activity that is meaningful to you.

Do both. Volunteering is often is few hours 1 -2 times / week. Every place has so many volunteers, they do not know what to do with them. In our city it is actually no easy to get into either, so it might explain my answer.
