Is my volunteering good if I help in an organization to raise finance awareness among other things by making presentation, managing data, etc. Thanks! I want to see how it looks to college admissions.

What you do doesn’t matter nearly as much as the effort you put into it. Colleges don’t want to see band more than they want to see Key Club or sports more than they want to see volunteer work. They want to see someone who puts their all into a few well thought out extracurriculars so that the student comes to campus ready to add something more than good grades.

So yes, your volunteer work will be looked at favorably by college admissions because it shows leadership and passion (I would assume). Just try to convey what you did in a way that comes across as genuine. Do not use it as a time to brag.

Yeah I was just wondering if this was the type of volunteering that would be good to put on a college app. I didn’t know because not alot of people do this kind of thing. I was also wondering how this would count as leadership? I have been trying to implement ideas, but I suppose that is the only way it counts as leadership?

You are correct, it is the type of volunteering that should go on the common app. But then again, any volunteering should (assuming its important to you).

It is leadership because you are taking initiative to do something! You are creating presentations, managing data, and implementing new ideas - not just sitting in on meetings and nodding.

Good luck to you! Anything else, just ask!

Best regards,
- Mike

Anyways this really helped my friend, because this was his volunteering opportunity now he feels relieved…

I’m glad, best of luck to you and to him!
