Voting in Cali

Hey everyone,

I'm an OOS from AZ. I just turned 18 and am about to register to vote. Since I'm moving to cali soon, can I register to vote there, or do I actually have to be a resident of cali (which won't happen for several years for me) to register there?
I'd rather vote for stuff in Cali which will affect me, as opposed to stuff happening in AZ which doesn't really affect me.

Sorry man, I’m pretty sure that you need to be a resident :frowning:
CA is pretty strict about voting…

You can definitely vote in California (or Arizona if you wish, but not both). Resident basically just means you live here. This is a different kind of residency than that that is used for tuition determinations (although voting is one of the things that helps become a resident for tuition). See here for more details. In any case, the Supreme Court ruled in Symm v. United States (1979) that students have the right to vote where they go to college. There are a lot of groups on campus that help register students to vote in California.

Oh Awesome! Thanks so much spoon!!
