VT vs. PSU

I am a Pennsylvania resident and am a rising senior. Besides PSU, I have looked at 4 small schools, 3 in PA and one in Ohio and I liked all of them. I have not yet looked at VT but my dad is an alum and wants me to look into it. I know PSU main has 45,000 and VT has 30,000 but I don't know many other differences. I liked PSU but I'm not quite sure yet if a big school is for me. I want to major in Marketing or Communications and minor in Creative Writing. I am more on the reserved side until I really get to know someone. I don't think I would go Greek wherever I end up. My GPA is 3.57/4.0 (UW) and 3.70/4.30 (W), my school has a weird gpa scale. Also, I know the prices are very close for PSU in state and VT out of state. I have been working with a private SAT tutor and will be taking the test for the third time in October; my score will likely be around 1800. Anyways, could someone tell me how else VT and PSU are alike/different and recommend one for me based on the info I've provided.

I have a daughter at Penn State and a wife who’s a Virginia Tech alum. Both of my daughters were accepted at VT even though neither wound up going there. I happen to think that VT and PSU are really quite similar, and I know other folks who think the same thing - both schools are in somewhat remote areas located within quintessential college towns. You really need to visit Virginia Tech to get a feel for the campus before making up your mind.

I don’t know which school would be better for Communications, although I’d think that PSU might be a better choice for Marketing. Both schools would give you a wide choice of options if you wind up changing majors as you go on. I’d guess that you stand a decent chance at getting accepted at either school.

We noticed as well that the OOS cost for VT is quite similar as the in-state cost for PSU.
