Deciding between business at Virginia Tech and OOS PSU.

One of my questions is how available are internships and permanent job placements at PSU? perhaps in NYC for marketing? I've heard that alumni help a lot...is that true?
Not sure of how much recruiting from well-known companies will be at VT. Perhaps both schools will be good for business,( I've seen various rankings) but who will offer the most in terms of job placement....internships or otherwise. Thanks for any help!

PSU has a very good career placement office. Historically, grads in accounting, finance, supply chain and actuarial science do well with both internships (in junior year) and full time jobs. That said, the economy has taken a big turn for the worse and business grads may find it more difficult to land jobs in the next couple of years. Very hard to predict how long this would last.
I've heard good things about VTech although I don't know much about their business school.
I would do some searching for job stats on the web for both schools (starting salaries, % of students with offers). If you can't find them call the school and ask.
I'm not sure what the difference in $ is and what your financial situation is. If going to PSU means going into heavy debt, it is likely not to be worth it. It's a good program but we're not talking Wharton here.
Both PSU and VTech are big schools with a spirited student body and a nice college town atmosphere. So socially, they seem pretty close.
I would lean toward saving the $ but that's just me. Save it for grad school. Save it for study abroad. Avoid loans!

If you are motivated and ambitious you should be able to find internships and jobs.
On the other hand keep in mind that a lot of the entry level jobs in Marketing are either in sales or retail. My first job with a Penn State marketing degree was a retail store assistant manager. Not very glamorous or well paying.
My brother in law also went to PSU for marketing and now installs computer systems for schools. I know two other people locally who were marketing majors; one is a salesman now and doing real well, the other is a kindergarten teacher and we joke about these great career benefits we got from Marketing.
Don't get me wrong, I love Penn State - my son went there (OOS for engineering and he has a great job) but I wish I choose a better (for me) major.
