Christiansburg is 5-10 minutes away by car and it has lots of shopping, restaurants, movies, etc. Buses run there from VT.

Yes most universities use a “personality match”. My advice; choose “go to bed late” “plan to use room to study”. Most students end up having fun in their room but at least you know you won’t be up till 3am while your roommate parties loudly with his best friends.
It’s preferrable to have an American roommate, or at least non Indian, so that you get to meet people, but if a friend of yours is going to the same university, you can request to be in the same corridor. This way you’re close, you have double the number of immediate contacts, and you don’t get on each other’s nerves
Don’t forget to email both schools about vegan options and being put in touch with a vegan student.

@dowzerw Ah… that it would be awesome. Now I gotta just convince my sister that VTech is the right one. I would definitely love to know your son
Let me get back to you after confirming my university…

I think most universities have you fill out a questionnaire about your living and study habits and they use those to match roomates. Are you an early riser or a night owl? Are you neat or messy? Do you like to study with music on or off? What kind of music do you like? those types of questions. I think many students these days find their own roommates when they join their college’s accepted students Facebook page.

@MYOS1634 Good tip
Ya now its time for me to interview a university :))

@dowzerw Oh ya, I got something like that from Stony Brook. I guess VTech does that after confirming admission… Well, I am good at making friends over the internet B-)

Lots of VT kids also end up with jobs in DC Virginia and Maryland . My kid had interviews with employers in Virginia NC MD . Blacksburg is a great college town. Good luck with your decision.

@sevmom Thank You :D. Ya both the areas I have some family connections so I won’t be alone.
Can you tell me name of the employers, if its a tech company.

Last thing, did they had to move out of blacksburg to get the interview or did VT provided the opportunity?

My son was in engineering, not computer science so his list won’t help you. He graduated last year and works for a science,technology,and strategy company in the DC area. He had an internship with them after junior year and was offered a permanent job at the end of the internship.
VT has a very good Career Services department and has Career Fairs and a very large Engineering Expo on campus. Lots of companies come to campus and lots of the interviewing is done there. If a company also wants to see you at their office, they would probably be willing to pay your expenses to travel.
