W&L Interview

I did not have the chance to be interviewed by an alumni. Will this affect by chances of being accepted?

You probably still have a chance. At least call the alum and tell them you want an interview so that you’re expressing interest.

I was interviewed by an alumnus who told me that while the main purpose of the interview is to ensure that you’ll be a good fit for W&L (for example, you don’t get freaked out by small towns, you can handle academic pressure, you can coherently express yourself, elaborate on activities you’ve been involved in, etc), the alumnus ultimately has little to no effect on your application as a whole. It’s a nice way to demonstrate interest and maybe elaborate on aspects of yourself that don’t come across too clearly on paper, but it certainly will not drastically affect your chances of being accepted. In fact, the alum won’t even know whether you’ve been accepted/waitlisted/denied until a few days after you’ll know. So don’t worry about it!

I encourage you to call them asap and let them know where you live. They will give you the contact information for the alumni in your area who can interview you. My understanding is that they require an interview and that you can have this done until either Jan 15 or 31st.

W&L alumni chapters can be found everyone, so contact admissions and ask them if there is an interviewer around your area. It also helps you- you can ask questions about W&L to the alumni. If you can’t do it, there shouldn’t be a problem, but it could never hurt.
