I am a architecture student at a community college in California hoping to transfer to a university (Cal Poly Pomona in mind) in the next few years.

I made a mistake and ended up with a W on a sociology class not because I was failing but because I decided not to take it. (This happened on the third week of class).

Will this have a big effect on my transfers? My first W btw.

I think if your other grades show you’re a serious student, they won’t think anything of it. Every school is different though.

I have a W in an online intro Biology course because it sucked, and I wanted hands-on experience. I’ve done well in much more challenging classes than that, so I’d imagine it won’t matter.

Not sure about CSU’s but UC’s don’t care about W’s. It only becomes a problem if you have a string of them (like say you have 7 over 3 semesters).

I’m guessing CSU’s don’t either. Plus 1 W is nothing to be worried about at all.
