Hi!
I am currently a college freshman who has just gotten my midterm grades back. I am doing fine in all of my classes except one, Calculus, I actually have a 50% in the class. So my question is if I withdrawal from the class now, transfer to a community college for a year and then to another school the following year will my withdrawal follow me to the new school?
Or do you think it would be best for me to try and get through the class with a C.
What do you mean “follow you”. You have to provide all transcripts when you apply and so the W will be there. However, a W is not a failing grade so it is not all that bad. It is really up to you if you want to repeat Calculus at another school. Getting a C is not the end of the world either.
If you really can’t understand anything that is going on, it would probably be best to drop because there’s no telling if you’re going to even get a C if you’re already lost this early on. If you can follow along and more or less do it/understand it but you’ve been lazy or just haven’t been putting in your best effort study-wise, that’s the only instance in which I would advise you to stay. A C “looks better” than a W because a W assumes you were pretty much failing (which at this point, you are) BUT, if you really will fail, of course you should bite the bullet and accept the W
I would go for the W. If you’re applying to a UC they don’t care about Ws. But either way, it doesn’t look good if you’re at 50%. A W is better than a D. In my mind, a W is better than a C.
