Wait List and Financial Aid

Hi: Couple of questions about the wait list. First, does anyone know if Swat offers the same financial aid to students who accept an offer of admission from the wait list? And has anyone heard how many students were offered wait list this year? I see that 12 were taken off the wait list last year but the Common Data Set does not say how many were on the list to begin with. Thanks!

My understanding is that Swarthmore meets full demonstrated need of every domestic student, wait list or not. You could check with admissions/financial aid office. If it’s not in the Common Data Set, I don’t know of a way to find out how many were on the wait list last year other than to call admissions and ask.

Yes. All Swarthmore students get the same financial aid treatment: 100% need met. No loan.

Not precisely, but I’ve seen the number discussed in past years. It’s on the order of magnitude of offering waitlist to the same number of applicants as they accept. So 900. It may be 700; it may be 1100. It’s a big number.

Realistically, anyone on Swarthmore’s waitlist should mentally shift gears to getting excited about their other options. If they hear from Swarthmore about a slot, great. I don’t mean to dash anyone’s hopes, but I think it’s important to be honest with students at this point in the process now that acceptance letters are in hand.
