Hi CC! Does anyone know how many people UDel accept from the wait list? I am on the wait list and I REALLLLYYY want to go to UDel. The only thing that really bums me out is that they don't notify you until after May 1st, which is the deadline for deposits for most colleges. Do you think it is worth around 500 dollars to wait and see if I am accepted? Because I would put a deposit on another school just in case.
Also, does anyone have advice on anything I could do to up my chances on being accepted off the wait list?
Thank you and congrats to everyone accepted!!

if you really want ud, then gamble the $500. my son was waitisted at johns hopkins last year. 1,000 kids were waitlisted and six got accepted off that list. he was one of them. i suggest the following:

send a letter explaining why ud is #1 on your list, why you are a good candidate and any others important stuff that has occurred since you sent in the original app (awards, community service, etc.)

have someone write and submit another letter of recommendation – a teacher, coach or employer. because you have been waitlisted, you have the the opp to send more stuff in.

visit the school again and request 15 minutes with an admissions officer. tell them you know they are busy and you just want to say hello. they want to admit qualified students who show a passion for wanting to attend. you will stand out if you make a good impression and all other things are equal on the waitlist.

reach out to them via social media channels: send them a dm on twitter, comment on their blog, upload a youtube video. reference something that shows you know the university inside-out-and-sideways.

keep the faith! you will end up wherever you were meant to go. in the end if that’s not ud, accept that all things happen for a reason. remember transferring is always an option.

good luck! keep us posted on how you make out!

Thanks for the website and great advice Brave Ulysses and run2345!
I actually already sent them a letter attached to the wait list offer! A few of my cousins are UD alums who are connected with admissions so they might put in a word or two for me
As of now I’m probably going to submit a deposit to Drexel just in case UD doesn’t offer me admission, then I’ll probably consider transferring. I’ll definitely keep you updated though! Thanks again for the advice

good luck!

my daughter sent out her letter to be placed on the waitlist IMMEDIATELY and she found out she got in right after the may 1st deadline. yes, we lost the money we had put down for a deposit at another school but it has turned out to be well worth the loss. i can’t say enough positive, wonderful things about delaware and all that it has to offer. good luck!!!

Does anyone know if a student can be offered a scholarhip if accepted off of the wait list? Or have they already been given out in the first wave of acceptances.

Ah sounds awesome! I hope that is me! And k1k23k, I actually just spoke to admissions because I had the same question and they said that waitlist students will be treated the same way as accepted students (i.e. get a good choice of housing, scholarships, etc)

Got 3 admissions acceptances from schools comparable to UD, got waitlisted for UD - wonder why?

Maybe because out of state???

A question about the $500. Do you have to pay $500 to accept a position on the waitlist? That seems steep. I didn’t realize you had to put down a deposit to accept a waitlist.

Regarding:“A question about the $500.”

You can only deposit when accepted. The $500 referenced in the previous post is the deposit you would forfeit at ANOTHER school. If you deposit at another school and are then accepted and enroll at Delaware (then paying your deposit to UDEL) you will forfeit your deposit at your previously deposited school.

For instance , if you enroll & deposit at Drexel or Rutgers and get offered Udel off the wait list after May 1 and enroll & deposit at Udel , Rutgers or Drexel will keep your original deposit.

"If you do accept a place on our waitlist, you will be notified of the Admissions Committee’s decision as soon after May 1st as possible. In the meantime, you should carefully review your other college options and their deposit deadlines. Please note: it is likely that you will have to deposit at one of those other schools before hearing from the UD Admissions Committee. "

You only have to accept a spot on the wait list (no cost) , the deposit is only when you enroll.

Also do not expect scholarship or significant FA for wait list students:

OK that makes sense. As far as the OP’s question- it seems like since there is no guarantee that you will be accepted from the waitlist at U Del if you don’t make a deposit somewhere prior to May 1st you will risk losing the offer(s) that you have. If there is no possibility that you will hear from the U Del wait list prior to May 1st it seems like you have no choice but to deposit with another school. Or am I missing something?

regarding:"Or am I missing something? "

You have it correct , you risk losing any acceptance by not depositing by May 1. Those are the spots then offered to wait list applicants.

You should DEFINITELY deposit money to your second choice school. This is because UD will probably not tell you until after May 1st. I just looked at a few posts from last year and some heard a few days before May 1st. YOu can wait to deposit to a school until April 30th, but I wouldn’t risk that. I am definitely putting a deposit in at another school just in case (since most college deposit deadlines are May 1st). It does suck if I lose the 500 dollars, but I will be extremely happy to be at UD!

This whole “waitlist” until after May 1 wait is unbelieveable - you lose money on a gamble.

BTW is the UD waitlist ranked, anybody know, and if you call the Admissions office will they tell you reasons for being waitlisted??

Well when you’re wait listed anywhere that is usually the case because they need to see how much room they have left in their class. And they do not rank their wait list, if you look at that link above that Brave Ulysses posted it tells you everything.

BUt I do agree with you-it sucks!
