Anyone Wait listed for BoCo hear anything since the initial letter? They said they would let us know ASAP but could be as late as May 5th. how does that work when most other schools have a May 1 deadline?

Most colleges do not notify those on the wait list until AFTER May 1. This is because they have to ascertain how many slots in the class are filled and they cannot do that until May 1 which is the reply date for those who were admitted. So, those who are on a wait list at a college, must commit and put a deposit down at one of their ACCEPTED colleges by May 1 and THEN if they get an offer off of a wait list school (in your case, BOCO), they may take the offer, but forfeit their deposit at the school they committed to prior to the May 1 deadline. Then, their spot opens up at that previous school for someone on that school’s wait list. That is how it works.

Offers from wait lists are typically after May 1. Please make sure to commit and put a deposit down at one of your child’s colleges to which he/she was accepted before May 1. If a wait list comes through after May 1 (which is when wait list movement typically occurs), your child may take that offer but you will lose your initial school deposit.

notasoccermom - soozievt is right that you need to put down a deposit by May 1st to a school your D would be happy attending. Two years ago one of D’s friends was on the waitlist for BOCO and received her acceptance sometime during the first week of May. She lost her deposit at another school as she really wanted to attend BOCO, but she had to pick a school by May 1 so she had a place to go.

Thanks for the heads up…I wasn’t even thinking in those terms. We are going to put all of her acceptances together this weekend and try to make a final decision…minus the waitlists (which are three).

I am hoping that BoCo is hearing back from some kids already…then the question is “can I afford this!!” if she does get accepted…this is so, so hard.

I’m sure BOCO is hearing back from some admitted students already. However, no school can be 100% certain how many slots will be filled until May 1 as some may wait until then to make their decisions and send in their replies.

notasoccermom - Not to sound too discouraging, but since you D is waitlisted she may not receive any scholarships if she is ultimately admitted to BOCO.

We have pretty much given up on the scholarship thought. We had hoped that scholarships that are offered to kids that don’t end up going would then be re-offered out to others that do accept/ or are waitlisted. But I know that BoCo doesn’t offer a whole lot to begin with.
