Wait-list!

Rochester is my number one school, but I heard that sometimes the school goes to a waitlist, and only takes a few people off. Does anyone know if Rochester this year is going to waitlist ?

Too early to even guess. Students who plan to attend don’t have to reply until May 1.

P.S. UR is need-aware when taking students off the waitlist.

In the past few years Rochester has not admitted students from the waitlist. Rochester usually predict so well the number of enrolling students. I’m sorry.

My daughter just got an acceptance letter via email today - she was waitlisted

When did
Your daughter find out?
Did you apply for financial aid too?

She received her acceptance letter via email this afternoon and yes we applied for fa and now have to wait for it to arrive- hopefully in enough time so we can compare it to her other choices prior to the may 1st deadline so we don’t forfeit a deposit. we have a may 15th deadline for u of r.

also just a fyi- we attended one of the sessions for admitted students. She interviewed with her admission officer and made sure to speak with the dean at his reception at the end of the day. We met with a fa counselor but he said he cant really tell us anything unless she is admitted and if she was then a package would be put together then. She sent a follow up email after her visit and her school counselor sent in a packet with additional awards etc that she has won since the initial application. So we definitely showed interest in her wish to attend.

I am waitlisted too!
and i haven’t heard any from the U of R… I wish that we hear some good news
tazdevil267 congraats!! :D

tazdevil276 please, tell us what did your daughter do to get the admission?
thnx

I was surprised that we heard back so soon- we were told from the admission office that they counldn’t determine if they would have any openings until after may 1st when they get admission responses back and then they if there were any openings they would have to reevaluate the waiting list pool and we wouldn’t hear back until around may 15th or so…

I read in several posts on this board that u of r is a show interest school- so we did whatever we could to let them know she was indeed very interested- I highlighted some of those things in my above post. I wish i had read them prior to her getting her waitlist notification because we would have made sure she had interviewed and visited the campus etc and maybe she would have gotten an acceptance sooner rather than waitlisted…

good luck

thanks.
all the best to your daughter

Rochester picked about 6 students from waitlist last year. This year the acceptance rate dropped 4% (38%→34%) due to the increased number of applicants. This means more people are going to enroll.

That’s such a great news!
I hope they get back to us asap… Do you guys encourge calling the office of admission?
I’m an international student btw

I got an email today for UR!

Did you get off the waitlist?? Congrats!
Still waiting for mine…

I was really shocked. I feel really honored UR is giving me a spot :)

sdwang, what did you do to get off the waitlist?
Did you call them? write them?

dippindots:
I filled out the waitlist form and mailed it back the next day.
In the comments section I think I wrote something along the lines of “Thank you for your continued consideration of my application. UR is my top choice and I will definitely attend if I am admitted.”
And then a week later I wrote to my admissions officer a two page letter explaining why I want to attend UR and included updates to my application. For example I recently got some new awards that I included details about. Research is a big part of why I want to attend UR and I’ve already done some research in high school so I elaborated about my experiences and included some papers I was involved with. Finally I reemphasized that UR is my top choice.

Initially I was going to attach an additionally letter of recommendation but then I decided there was no point…

oh wow okay thank you for answering my question :D
