wait listed at U Chicago

I was wait-listed at U Chicago and sent a form letter stating that the statistics for wait-list acceptance varied from year to year, being as low as 3% and as high as 30%. I was wondering if anyone knew anything more specific about the process. Basically, I’m trying to figure out if I have any chance at all or if I should just give up (as of now, I’ve written a letter to the admissions office, sent my 3rd quarter grades, and emailed my regional admissions counselor). U Chicago has always been my first choice, so I’m reluctant to just forget it…

I'd keep your hopes up as uc is kind of a back up school to lots of kids applying to ivies (not a qualitative knock, just how it is. uc is not inferior at all to these schools), so lots of kids don;t go after acceptance. after they get all their acceptances and rejections, they'll began to pick off the waitlist to fill their class. I personally turned down my acceptance, so there's one right there....

You never know, and it's worth doing everything short of annoying the heck out of the admissions officers to show them you're interested. As is often recommended with a waitlist, if the school is your first choice and you would absolutely attend if they accepted you, TELL THEM.

Do not give up. I decided that the waitlist was a long shot and not worth my time last year, and that I needed to move on before summer. I declined a spot on the UChicago waitlist. As it happens, that year was the year they reached their near-30% admittance off the waitlist mark, all because they had been experimenting with their yield numbers. Boy do I feel stupid now. :( (Am applying to transfer, and my chances are MUCH lower now than they were then, or off the waitlist.)

As is also often said, Chicago is a school that responds to demonstrated interest. So demonstrate some!

thanks for the advice. I'm keeping at it, and hoping for the best at this point. ;)
