Okay well I accepted my admission and did housing at UT Austin (my 2nd choice school) but I plan on accepting a place on the wait list for Case. Is there anything I can do to get off the waitlist? Does it really take until July ???

Also how does this affect chances for financial aid?

“Thank you for your application to Case Western Reserve University. Interest in the university continues to grow, and this year we received a record number of applications for undergraduate admission, many from academically promising students like yourself. With a substantial increase in applications, and because Case Western Reserve is a residential university where we guarantee housing for all first-year students, we have been forced to be conservative in the number of acceptances we initially offer. The Admission Committee hopes you will accept a place on our wait list for the Class of 2016.

In early April, we will send you an e-mail asking if you would like to remain on the wait list. It is important that you respond to this e-mail, as students who respond in the affirmative will be considered if additional acceptances are granted, and students who respond in the negative or do not respond will be removed from consideration.

We are very optimistic that we will be able to grant a number of acceptances to students from the wait list. Housing is guaranteed for all students who are admitted from the wait list, and need-based financial aid will also be available for US citizens and Permanent Residents. In all cases, Case Western Reserve will notify students of final admission decisions no later than July 1, 2012.”

I couldn’t find the common data set from 2011-2012, but according to the one from the year before last, only 2 students from the waitlist were admitted.

Case must be getting very competitive; five years ago my daughter got in EA with a nice scholarship; this year her brother with essentially the same stats was deferred EA, and now waitlisted. I think they do need girls to even out their ratio, tough for guys, even with excellent stats to make it. Maybe they will take more off the wait list this year,no way
to tell.

The data set indicates that 6,318 were admitted to fill a class of 1,021. I am sure that there were many people in the wait list that eventually got admitted to CWRU but chose to enroll elsewhere. The data set indicates that only 2 people in the wait list eventually chose to enroll at CWRU.

The data set shows this:
Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list: 925
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 307
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 2

Two students were admitted from the waiting list. I don’t know how it could be interpreted to mean more than two students were offered admission but if you don’t believe me, check out the many threads on CC including the following:
