any chance of still getting in to wash u if wait listed?
Is there a chance, sure. Not sure how great of chance. Info about waitlist size is hard to come by. Sounds like they cut back the size of the list a few years back.
Someone posted the number of people that they took off the waitlist in previous years.
Fall 2017: 128
Fall 2016: 53
Fall 2015: 129
Does anyone know if anyone really gets taken off prior to May 1? Or do they always wait until after that time to start making wait list offers?
@PrdMomto1 All the kids I know who came from off the waitlist heard from WashU after May 1st, but that’s a relatively small sample size so I can’t say for sure.
Would the chances of getting off the waitlist be lower this year since ED2 took spots? This is the first time they have done ED2 and I’m afraid getting off the waitlist will be harder than usual.
My two cents on the Waitlist (most of this conjecture) is that WashU will take people from the waitlist. Consider the following ED2 took more ED spots. That can be inferred by the following. This year WashU reported receiving fewer total applications (ED1, ED2, RD) than before. This drop can be attributed to this being the 1st time the supplemental essay was required. At the same time WashU also reported that that percentage they admitted dropped to 14% (used to be 16%). In other words, although they received less applicants they also became more selective and admitted fewer. However, they are NOT expecting a smaller class. They are expecting the class size to be about the same and they are likely counting on a large increase in the overall yield. They offered more ED’s (ED1 + ED2) which are essentially 100% yield and consequently they made fewer RD offers - the yield from these will be lower than 100% - and the total overall yield (ED1, E2, RD) will go up.
However, since, this is the 1st time they are doing ED2, it will be harder for them to predict the actual yield from the remaining RD’s. This is risky because they will not want to have too many students. Where would they house them? And they can’t really tell students that they accepted not to come. Therefore, I think they would have been a little more conservative this year with the RD offers and once they know how the actual yield is shaping up, then will let people in from the waitlist.
As I said this is just my conjecture, I wish everyone that is on the waitlist the best of luck.
My D received an offer of admission earlier today from the waitlist … Could anyone compare WashU, Vanderbilt and USC, please??
My friend’s son just got an offer too. Now he’s panicked over if he should go since he’s never seen the school.
My daughter just got hers too. Not sure it will make a difference at this point since she just committed last night to somewhere else. It was a hard decision and I just don’t know if she’s willing to open the door again.
I just got off too! (Around 3:30 today). Good luck to everyone else still waiting. My fingers are crossed for you and if not washU, I’m sure you’ll end up somewhere you are incredibly happy at.
okay sooo is anyone else getting off or is it over?
I don’t know. Still have hope. At least please send us notification.
I heard it not over until June 30. So I guess there’s still time.
GUYS I JUST GOT IN OFF THE WAIT LIST!!!
They sent it in an email, no call, and it wasn’t personalized, so I think it was sent as a mass email to everyone who got admitted off the wait list. They gave me until May 20 to decide
