My D was wait listed for MT…is this a good thing, and is there actually a chance that she could get in?

Yes, it’s a good thing… Yes, she could actually get in…
I think everyone may have accepted last year, but 2 years ago, I know of 2 guys who decided to go elsewhere.
Good luck!

People have all kinds of reasons why they may or may not accept offers from even the most selective of schools.

For example:
They may find that it’s not affordable once all of the financial aid offers are in
They may not have visited before auditioning, and once they do visit, they just don’t like the “vibe”
They may get an offer from a school they actually like better
They decide they just don’t want to be Select one: (that close to) (that far from) home.
Their BF/GF/BFF isn’t going there.
They book a National Tour and decide to defer admission for a year. (Hey, it could happen!!)

I’m sure there may be a million other reasons, but these popped into my head.
As the mom of a D who’s currently on FOUR wait lists, I’ve been wracking my brain for these ideas! (Of course she also has some really fabulous acceptances, so it’s more of an academic exercise!)

The chances I have heard are much better here though. My understanding is that they will actually go to the waitlist if someone declines. So many schools takes double what they want so those waitlists are much less promising. This is awesome!

^^An excellent point!! How much does “type” play into the decisions of who comes off the wait list? I imagine a lot.

** Thread Theme Song:**

“There’s a princess in a tower…
…
Skip ahead, skip ahead
…
Blah blah blah…
…
Skip ahead, skip ahead
…
And the waiting, the waiting, the waiting, the waiting
The waiting!
…”

@violeteyes & tracyvp:
I hope your princess’s ** TODAY** comes quicker than Fiona’s!!!

Fingers crossed for a fabulous outcome!!!

Last year they did not go to the waitlist…but actor12 is right… they do not accept “x” to yield “y” so if someone declines they go to the list! …and Tracyvp funny you say “They book a National Tour and decide to defer admission for a year”; three weeks before school started this was a decision my son had to make! He opted for school! Good luck violeteyes and anyone else who is waiting!!!

If you are wait listed, is there someone you should email reaffirming your interest in the program? Should you email the general admissions at SMTD or a specific person in the department?
