I am an EA applicant from a 1500-kid high school in the South. I received notification that my EA application was received on November 7, through regular mail. My friend, also applying EA from the same school, had already had an interviewer contact him, schedule an interview, and he had it today. But...I got nothing! No phone call, no e-mail...contacted Harvard Admissions and got an automated response. What's going on? How bad is it going to hurt if I don't get an interview? Ah!!#$!#

Lots of kids haven't been called yet, wait until December to be nervous...

Sweet Moses! Thanks.

I actually called the admissions office a few weeks ago adn they told me if i hadnt been contacted by the 21st (today), then I should let them know.

So if you still haven't been contacted, I'd recommend calling the admissions office.

Candlize--- I believe someone else said that they called and received that response, too. I recommend that you contact the admissions office, ASAP.

that's definitely the case. i called late this afternoon and they gave me the number to get in touch with my regional supervisor alum. i recommend calling asap tomorrow and getting their name.

My interviewer said reports were due Nov 28th.

Dude harvard is early...

ANNOUNCEMENT: You should have been contacted a long time ago for an interview if you applied EA to Harvard. As someone previously said, interviewers are sending in their reccomendations by the 28th, so your time is running OUT!

If you are in a hurricane-affected area, it's possible that you won't be interviewed because of a lack of interviewers (who understandably are dealing with their own problems).

If you aren't interviewed because of a lack of interviewers, it does NOT count against you.

Where I live, we only have a few alum interviewers, so there are still lots of EA candidates who haven't been interviewed. We try to interview people before Thanksgiving, but often aren't able to get interviews done until the first week of Dec.

I hope that Harvard applicants who are reading posts like this will remember them if you end up going to Harvard. Perhaps they'll inspire you to volunteer to be an alum interviewer after you graduate.

Thanks for the help guys, called the people and got an interview set up for tomorrow!

YAY! Best of luck to you!

I called the Admissions Office yesterday as I had not received a call for an interview. I was informed that they are having trouble finding alumni to conduct interviews in several regions of the country. I was given the phone number of a local counselor in my region. I called him up and talked to an answering machine. I left a message and have not heard back. Dang.

vick, what regions were they? thanks.

ugh. no interview yet.

I'd guess that the regions are any hurricane-affected areas and states like North Dakota, Alaska, Arkansas and Idaho that have few Harvard alum.

I got a call. Interview scheduled for this weekend.

i'm still waiting.... I tried calling the Admissions Office, but it's closed for Thanksgiving. Does anyone know how I may find contact information for the regional alumni interview supervisor? (google isn't helping much right now :) ) Thanks to anyone who can help

You will have to wait until Mon. Basically, only the adcoms know the info for your regional alumni coordinator (AKA "local schools' committee chairman"), who is some alum in your area. That may even change every year since that alum is a volunteer.

Trust me: The regional alum coordinators do not want calls from students asking about their interviews. The especially don't want these calls when they're getting ready for the holiday.

I've chaired my local schools committee, and it's a lot of work finding alums willing to interview students while I also was working and taking care of my family. The last thing that I needed was having desperate students calling me about their interviews particularly when the protocal is for them to call Harvard.

Admissions tells alumni interviewers that while adcoms prefer that interviews be done before Thanksgiving, it's OK to do them as late as the first week in Dec. Adcoms know that the alum are juggling lots fo things so may not be able to make the earlier deadline.

For those of you who eventually get accepted and go to Harvard: After you graduate, remember what you went through waiting for an interview, and take the time to volunteer as an alum interviewer.

Thank you for your advice, Northstarmom. I just got a little worried after reading post #9, etc!
