I was concerned because we have the error message too.
There is a whole new thread staring with people reporting the login error. So it’s the system.
I was getting the same error message and now it is working and DS application is STILL UNDER REVIEW. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yea I’m getting that error also
In now… nothing has changed.
I got through and states still under review. I did notice that there were acceptances yesterday with SAT’s in the mid 1200’s so that is a good sign (for mid range students like my son).
Still getting that error message. Hoping the systems crashed because too many acceptances were put through haha. Good luck everyone!!!
Just got in and STILL no decision
Was able to log in (still under review) but now getting a different error. Penn State is definitely having technical difficulties today.
Same here, error. But when I tried again it worked. But still under review
As an aside, has anyone heard of any direct admits to Smeal? I think I only saw one so far. I think my daughter should get in by stats and EC etc but who knows how they make these decisions. Being from MA I want her closer to home and PA is closer. She has 3 acceptances for southern schools and also Indiana. UP is just so much closer…
My daughter was accepted to Smeal. Penn State is in her top 2 but she’s waiting to hear from 6 other schools. She’s been accepted to Alabama, Indiana, UCF and Penn State so far. Good luck to all those that are still waiting.
I just called Admissions to ask how many times per day portals are being updated.
Rep: “Only once per day overnight, so when we get here at 8am, they’ve already been updated.”
Me: “So if I’ve already logged in this morning, there is no point in checking again until tomorrow?”
Rep: “That’s correct.”
???
Does anyone have any info to the contrary? Before, a rep said every four hours so I doubt this will deter my obsessive portal checking, though I admit I do feel slightly deflated. Lol
Have any rejections been sent out?
Does anyone know when Nursing School decisions usually come out? I’ve been checking portal like 5 times per day…it’s bad…
I’m not sure if it’s because my SAT is low (1180), but my weighted GPA is 4.2 (uw 3.76). I’ve taken mostly honors classes and 1 AP (I’m also taking Anatomy and Physiology this year which I think looks good for Nursing??? IDK)
I’m so nervous!!!
@OceanIsle. Someone else earlier in this thread spoke to a rep who said the portal is updated twice a day, midnight and noon. my D20 received her acceptance update overnight, so unfortunately I cannot confirm the throughout the day theory. I see some people updating in the evening, so I would hold out hope that there is some updates during the day, but this is pure speculation. One of my daughters best friends heard the same day she did and one of her other friends is still waiting. They all had mid-range stats (1200-1300 SATs). The two acceptances were from HHD and education. The one waiting applied to Communications. So i am still keeping tabs on the acceptance threads. Hope you hear something soon.
That is not at all what that means. They will be sending acceptances all the way until Jan 31 and beyond. Who heard when and who applied when has absolutely nothing to do with the chances of anyone else getting admitted or denied. Hang in there - it’s a rough wait, but the fact that two from your high school heard and others haven’t doesn’ t mean anything.
They say it every year, and every year by evidence on this thread and others, it is updated multiple times a day. They tell people once a day for some unknown reason, but it’s never actually been true. My kids were all accepted in the evenings after a day of other people posting updates. As with everything Penn State admissions, there is no rhyme or reason.
I wonder if they are trying to help people to be less compulsive about checking multiple times a day. It’s almost an addiction. I wonder if there are any aps to prevent chronic checking? If the portals could steer everyone to Insight Timer for a short meditation we might all be better off!
One of the colleges my daughter applied to releases all decisions, admissions and scholarships, on one day. They make it so there is no need to check the portal constantly. She knows which day to check and she will know the decision on that day. I really wish more colleges and universities followed that model.
Frankly the obsessive portal checking is a monster of our own making. Unless a school has true rolling admissions, like Pitt, most schools release their decisions on the same day, although it might be earlier than they initially post. This makes a lot of sense from their perspective, since admissions wouldn’t need to field phone calls about when results will be released, why two kids who applied later from a high school were accepted but D has not heard, portal problems like they encountered this AM, etc. I was not even aware PSU posted admissions decisions early on their portal until I read these forums. I would have merely assumed, like my D, that the decisions would all be released the same day right before Christmas. While it is certainly great to know earlier that you are accepted, especially if PSU is your first choice, the release date does not affect the ultimate decision. Sometimes we tend to think otherwise, and stress ourselves out for no reason. There are tens of thousands of applicants who are patiently waiting until the end of the month, not checking the portal, who will either get a package in the mail or will log in a few days early and hopefully will be happily surprised. The decision will come when it does, and will be the same regardless of when it is announced. In the meantime, they didn’t get themselves all worked up like their parents, and maybe actually enjoyed their school activities and the holidays. Sometimes the best approach is to just sit back and wait. Maybe just check every few days or so - statistically there is a better chance of the decision having been posted than if you check multiple times per day. It would certainly be less stressful. I should take my own advice
How much is the essay considered in the admissions process? If you write a great essay will it help your application a lot?
