While CC is a great resource -one of my favs- there are a couple of other sites that you should visit. One is UNIGO.COM (just remove the asterisks when you type in the url. CC doesn’t like us listing competing sites, thus the asterisks). The other is COLLEGEPROWLER.CO*M

On both of those sites you can get more focused info that comes straight from current students and alumni. The first site contains student made videos for some schools. But the second site has a lot better information in a number of different categories helpful to both students and parents. I think the “grades” and stats on the different schools are pretty accurate. Much better than the fluff on USNWR’s site.

That would be unfortunate and paranoiac. They are all different, i.e., each is better than other sites at what they do best. CC has the best forums/message boards on the Internet for parents and kids seeking fast turnaround advice and discussion on colleges. CC should not fear other sites.

rwyzan - Nope, I haven’t heard anything. Maybe they really are just sending the decision to my house in the states…but if you and Drelnis are still waiting, I’ll hold out hope for an email (even better, an email with good news!). :)

Drelnis, yay Thailand! My family has a Thai exchange student right now and I love her…I mean, I shouldn’t draw conclusions about the entire country based on the two or so Thai people I know, but I have a super-good impression of it, haha. Plus, Thai food is delicious.

Okay, this is so off-topic. To everyone who’s been accepted: are you guys going?? :D

Congratulations DreInis! Did you get the John Frederick Oberlin scholarship?

suitcases: I don’t know yet. Oberlin is pretty close to home, but the scholarship is VERY nice! And I still have not received need-based FA, so I may end up there!

haha, Sara, when I first read your post about getting the letter I was like “If she got her letter all the way in OHIO, mine must have arrived too…” and then I remembered where Oberlin is. But I totally get the aversion to close-to-home. I only applied to one school in my state, because of in-state tuition. :p

suitcases: Okay, so I’m not the only one!
I think my package was sent to my house in the states, but that means it’ll take another week or so to get to Ghana :S

rwyzan; oh, another expat! Are you in Ghana with your family or by yourself? If my letter gets sent to my house in the US, my mom will just email me the decision, which is convenient…

Yes, the letters have been mailed! They went out on Monday.

@snoozn - Generally, students accepted off of the wait list do not receive merit aid, as they usually have slightly lower academic profiles than most admitted students. However, we had our most competitive admissions year ever this year, and I know that we ended up with some very strong students on the wait list. It’s possible that some of those students might receive merit aid if they were accepted off the wait list. Everyone accepted off the wait list will receive the same need-based aid they would have received if they were admitted earlier.
