Waiting makes me grumpy...

So I applied ED to CAS and I have to admit, this waiting is making me very grumpy and reading all these threads about people freaking out and being nervous, isn't helping. (Not that I am not freaking out, because trust me, I am and I totally understand all the uneasiness.) But I was wondering, why does everyone want to go to NYU so badly? I am really interested in learning what you guys want to major in and why you choose NYU. (And maybe, we can distract ourselves a little from waiting till Dec. 15)

I really want to go to NYU because I want to major in Journalism and be a Foreign Correspondent when I grow up. I love NYU because it's in the city, it comes with amazing opportunities, that it isn't crazy about it's athletics (I am coming from a private Catholic high school that just got a football team two years ago, so I don't really get that whole football game bonding thing,) I went to see it and I loved it, and I really want to work for the New York Times someday. I can't imagine going to any other college to be honest.

What about you guys?

Hmm basically: I love NYC, it’s not ridiculously far from home, and as far as I know they’re the best undergrad program for what I want to study (Speech Pathology)… plus the name helps…

I’m not killing myself stressing out about NYU though, because I know that a) I’m waaay below average stats-wise so I don’t have much of a chance b) I’ll be happy if I end up somewhere else and c) I won’t be in so much debt if I don’t get in. I already got into my very close second choice so we’ll see what happens. Either way, good luck to everyone!

Well New York City definitely represents opportunities that no other college can offer. Living in the heart of Greenwich Village and not only studying in New York City, but feeling as though you can be a part of a city is what is invaluable to me personally. I mean I already visit my grandfather in Coney Island during the breaks, so just being in New York City will let me be closer to my family and friends.

Honestly, if I didn’t get into NYU, it would hurt, but my second choice of Fordham is also a school that I fell in love with so I guess I will be happy there if I get accepted too. I just love the small, independent shops around Greenwich Village. I love how the trees change in the fall, and having 4 seasons is important to me because I am used to having discreet times of the year as I grew up in Albany, and I am used to that type of weather. Right now I am just rambling on and on, but seriously the academics are second to none, and I also like the freshmen dorms. I just think this school is a perfect fit for someone like me. Being a Pakistani-Iranian male, it is important to have diversity in a school. My high school is 95% white, and I am tired of having no diversity at all. At NYU there are so many international students that I will make NYU my home away from home. :)

Something else that is unique about NYU is that it is an independent, real world experience. No one is there to hold your hand. I am going to bite my tongue and say that I am fully prepared to immerse myself in a colder, more “real” culture that embodies New York City. I have always been a New Yorker: I love Brooklyn pizza, I love the sounds of horns and ambulances even if it is during the morning hours of the day, and I especially love the variety of things to do in the city. You can go to amazing museums like MomA, there are amazing restaurants galore, and I mean the nightlife is really diversified so you can do whatever you want. I mean I have friends who go to school and complain all they can do on the weekends are go to Frat parties-- and that is if they’re on the list to begin with. At NYU, the nightlife is so diversified compared to other schools, that you have no excuse to say the City is boring!!

I wish you guys all luck! Hang in there! :)))

my dad lives in NYC (I live 45 minutes away in New Jersey). My best memories are in the city. I fell in love with NYU my sophomore year and when I really started researching it I realized its 100% the school for me. I love the entire atmosphere created by the school. I love the independece offered from the school. I love how large it is (weird right!?) and how you’re responsible for yourself and your own work  Not to mention all the opportunities a degree from NYU can open up.

I got to live in the city with my dad for an internship this summer and it only made me want to go to NYU even more. The fact that its such a unique school for really independent people + the fact that its in NYC + the fact that it has a great reputation once you graduate has made NYU the best choice for me

I wanna go cause if i don’t get in, my parents will beat me.

i am originally from Shanghai, and moving to this little town called Charlottesville (where UVA is) in Virginia was basically disabling me. of course i love, live, breathe and want the city for its opportunities and fun. all the schools im thinking of applying if i dont get into nyu are located in cities, but of course, nothing can come close to nyc. i am extremely sick of college kids knowing nothing but drinking and partying in their own dorms because they have nothing better to do with themselves in the real world; and thinking theyre so extremely cool at the same time, well, false.

also i would love to do the abroad program in shanghai so i can hang out with my friends there and go to college at the same time! woohoo :D

and we get to know very soon, and my ongoing love affair with nyu for the past 2 years will either have to come to an end, or be everlasting! lets all hope for the latter. good luck to all :)

“I am extremely sick of college kids knowing nothing but drinking and partying in their own dorms… thinking theyre so extremely cool at the same time”

typical statement from someone who didn’t grow up here

I moved from Beijing when I was 5. When my cousins in China heard that my sister (in Duke) and brother (in Emory) were drinking and partying, they were shocked and said they didn’t know the “real world” and thought they were “extremely cool” when they weren’t

Get used it. Harvard, princeton, in every college, people party. If you think that dictates “having nothing beter to do in the real world”, keep it to yourself, its grown imbedded in the college experience, every ceo, lawyer, etc has been through it, just have fun while you can, then again its your choice.

Other then the reasons they listed… I was drawn to NYU because of their supplement questions… they asked us about more then independent studies and academics— they asked us about who we were.
And honestly I feel like I have spent enough of my life focused on grades so I want to spend the next 4 years of my life with people who are much more then a GPA (not that I think that other schools have people that are less then a GPA but I feel like NYU has allot less grade-grubbers than other schools)

BTW I agree with NYUwouldbenice- it would be nice to do fun things on the weekend and experience the opportunities that NYU has to offer (like NYUwouldbenice I don’t get that were I live) that stimulate my mind rather then depress it…
I am just saying that it would be nice to hang out with people that don’t just want to get smashed every night.

trust me im used to it. and i want change thats why i want nyu.
of course you would counter my statement because youre from beijing.
maybe i was too brief, but i think everyone, no matter nationality, gets a little fed up with the american ignorance at one point or another, especially if you live in the south.

im not shocked people drink, actually my friends do on weekends.
im just saying if drinking means having fun, that is so sophomore year in high school.
in the end its all a matter of opinion, i could have so much fun with a little bit of alcohol (no drinking age) in shanghai going to KTVs rather than just standing somewhere playing beer pong.

sorry im not like your cousins as you predicted. seems like you have alot of anger built up towards them. you should try confronting them rather than a stranger on CC whom you know nothing about. and if you came here when you were five, then…haha okay.

“standing somewhere playing beer pong.”

…or perhaps randomly getting wasted in parties.

Back to the topic though, yeah I’m nervous as hell too. NYU means a lot to me if I get in.

It’s not the end of the world. You’ll be going to college somewhere. Learn alot, have fun and you’ll probably end up liking whereber you go.

I can’t wait till next week. I am wearing my NYU t-shirt for good luck today :)

I feel that being in the City of NY is the best part. Good answer, NuclearPakistan1. It’ s like it’s the hub of the world. Congratulations on getting in by the way :)

because I’ve lived here my entire life (except one year in Paris as a kid) and I love this city to death, and NYU fits me to put it simply. The majors i’m considering are highlighted by cinema studies and philosophy, I love the city, I love the neighborhood. I live in a place that gets me excited when returning from vacation… i have no issues with extending that for 4 years.

oh, and did I mention that it’s free

shut up woosah92, dont throw money at my face.

aka im jealous, as you might have expected.

ill come to hsseniorlooking if i get rejected lol the world needs more ppl like him or her!

oh and i mainly want to go to nyu to “start a new life” as serena says in gossip girl and start from the beginning : ] it’ll be a fresh start. ill be all on my own. 3000 miles from home, nobody to bother me, i live basically in my own apartment right now lol well my room is seperate from parents house but its like 5 feet away…but it feels like im in an apartment without a kitchen but my mom makes food so i dont need one yet unless i make crepes! i LOVVE seeing different types of ppl…hearing ppl play music in subway stations, on the streets, cuz theyre all soo talented. i love going out at night and walking around and relaxing. btw…do the apartments have spas built in or gyms for the whole building? i know san francisco apts. do.

I’m dying i need to find out their decision right now!!!

I know beeegee! I am so jealous of everyone who has heard already, but I am also glad to know that people are getting into their dream school so I know there is still a chance for me :)

Shandrydan, what is Speech Pathology? That sounds like an interesting major.
