Silly - the list is probably even smaller than that since they offered spots to 789 and the active list is probably down to 500 or so - at least that’s my guess.

@Stanford78 yeah I think they told us that 1/2 usually accept. I would be fine with 300+ ! When my sister was a senior she was wait listed at Vandy and if I remember correctly, there were 5000 kids or something wait listed… needless to say it didn’t work out ha.

My D’s college counselor told her that the historically lower number of applicants offered wait list spots by Stanford was the result (at least in part) of a change of philosophy that came with leadership changes in the Admissions Office. They decided it wasn’t fair to “punt” on so many applicants and opted instead to make as many final decisions as they thought they could. As a result, at least in part, compared to its peers (and many other schools), Stanford’s waitlist this year is quite small. But that also may mean that they don’t expect to need it. Time will tell.

I also heard (although I can’t remember where) that no one deferred in the SCEA round was offered a waitlist spot.

And if this year is like last year, it looks like waitlist decisions ought to come out sometime around next Friday or the following Monday.

What do people who get off the waitlist usually do besides filling in the box. I feel like there should be something more I can do.

If you believe in a God, pray to him, her, it or them. If you don’t, it still couldn’t hurt.

the stanford Facebook group is now in the low 1600s! still pretty high cause I’m sure plenty of people haven’t joined but its better than high 1700s! there must’ve been quite a few harvard, princeton, yale, mit people who left.

Yeah, we dropped about 120 from the FB group out of 1760ish, but if that’s representative of all 2400 admits, that’s a pretty high yield. I know many cross admits that didn’t choose S though, so there’s hope! Good luck you guys :)

MIT did not accept any students from the waitlist.

I have this feeling that the same will be true for Stanford this year - either very few or none at all. We’ll know soon enough.

Kimchee - are you part of the facebook page admins? Do you drop people who have not accepted or do they voluntarily leave?

I just got the letter 9 minutes ago.

May 08, 2012

Dear _____,

Thank you for your interest in remaining on the Stanford waitlist. We have confirmed there will be no further openings in our incoming class of 2016.

_____, we really enjoyed getting to know you through the application process. Though we are saddened that we cannot offer you admission, we know you will make wonderful contributions throughout your undergraduate years and beyond. We wish you the best as you embark on your college experience.

Best regards,
Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid

so i guess they met their yield and no one is getting off the waitlist? man i didnt even get the normal Stanford rejection letter which ive heard is one of the best =[

That’s sure what it sounds like - or they already filled the few spots they had between the 1st and today.

D reports that she received the same e-mail communication at the same time as Ricecooka.

Oh well, it was a good run. I would’ve loved D to attend my Alma Mater, but I think she secretly wanted to attend where she’s going all along.

Good luck to all of you wherever you end up. Its where you were meant to go anyway!

Stanford’s yield this year was at a record high (73.4%), meaning it over-enrolled. It’s possible that Stanford intended for this to happen, since it accepted the same number this year as last year.

I’m not sure intended would be the right word - perhaps expected?

Where did you find that stat?

73.4%

1781 - If I’m not mistaken, that will be the largest class in Stanford history.

That yield blows the socks off the Ivies.

Just curious, as a mother of one of those record admits, how does this affect housing? Is there a housing shortage of any sort at Stanford? Love the high yield, but just hope the university is ready for this!
