Waitlist Dilemma

I was waitlisted at my two top-choice colleges, so obviously I chose to stay on the waitlist for both.

I love both colleges and would prefer either one over the college I'm currently enrolled at. However, the complicated part is that chances are I'll be hearing back from both colleges at different times.

So my question is, say I hear back from one of said colleges and find out that I've been admitted off the waitlist. Obviously, I would accept. But what if, a month later, I hear back from the OTHER college and also got off the waitlist there. Am I allowed to withdraw my admission to the first college and go to the other one instead? If I get off the waitlist at the first college I hear from and enroll, will the other college be notified and take me off their waitlist?

I know the chances of me getting off both waitlists (or even one of them!) is very, very slim but I want to know just in case something like this happens :)

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this!

If you are offered a spot off the waitlist, you will have a limited time, say 48 hours, to decide whether to accept it. “Accepting” means sending in a deposit of several hundred dollars to hold your place at the new school. If, at a later date, you are offered a spot off the other waitlist, you can change your mind, but you will lose the deposit to the first waitlist school (plus your deposit at the original school). So this can get expensive, but there isn’t an ethical problem.

That is what I thought. Thank you very much for the speedy response :)

what schools were you wait listed at?

What jingle said.
