I Got In! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!

:) congrats! I bet you don't feel misled anymore ;)!

lol........

Jeehawn-congrats on your acceptance! Now, will you be going to Swat? :)

We are visiting this weekind June 2-3, flying from Milwaukee tomorrow morning. I understand seniors will be there as commencement is Sun. Anyone know anyone we can talk to while we are there? Pardon the short notice. (Richard Frank, father of Jeehawn=Jon)

richfrank:

I believe that the campus will be crawling with current students working graduation: parking, etc.

So just about anyone who looks like a college student will probably indeed be a college student.

Don't miss seeing Parrish Hall, where the admissions office is located, the Science Center lobby/coffee shop, the amphitheater (where graduation is held). The student snack bar (and bookstore and....) is in Clothier Hall (looks like an old stone church). I imagine that Sharples, the dining hall, will be serving, so you could eat lunch or breakfast there.

Here's the schedule of graduation weekend events:

http://www.swarthmore.edu/x11084.xml

The Last Collection in the amphitheater on Saturday afternoon featuring a speech by recently retired Dean Gross, would be a fantastic event to attend. It's the bookend event: freshmen start their Swarthmore careers with a First Collection in the amphitheater (with a candle lighting ceremony) and end it with the Last Collection. Dean Gross is a wonderfully funny, irreverent speaker and I'm sure his speech will be both hilarious and meaningful. The ampitheater is spectacular and it would be easy to just sneak in and find a place to sit or stand. This event would probably tell you more about Swarthmore than anything I could imagine.

Thanks Interesteddad. Got your post before we left. Really looking forward to our visit!

You'll find non-graduates living in Mary Lyon dorm for the summer -- it's a little off the beaten path, but if you have a campus map you can find it. I'd use it as a last resort if you haven't found enough students to talk to around campus.

I was really awestruck during our visit. It was awesome. I'm going for sure.

(Father of Jeehawnfizizzle) Equally awestruck. Thanks, interesteddad and shellfell. Campus was beautiful, Bob Gross was funny, touching and wise, two professors made special efforts to meet with us on one day's notice, but most of all, the students were friendly, not afraid to show their love of learning, and love their experience. One graduate was afraid she would cry if we talked too much on the way to commencement. That says it all. We and Jeehawn are very happy. All's well end's well!!!

Sounds like a productive weekend! The place really is quite enchanting.

jeehawnfizzle and richfrank-
Glad you enjoyed your visit. My extended family was there this weekend for graduation of our oldest S. The weather wasn't the greatest (too hot on Saturday and a little dicey with some rain during graduation itself) but Swat is just one spectacular place to be for the right student. Good luck whatever your decision!

momof3sons:
We attended Last Collection, so perhaps our paths crossed.
Jeehawn definitely feels Swat is right for him.
He's going!

That's great news, Rich! We were at Last Collection and Bob Gross was as entertaining as ever. But now your son knows the secret Swat saying..."No matter what you say or do to me..." Best of luck to him and I hope he enjoys his time there.
