i just read that MX over accepted this year...

i got waitlisted at middlesex too.

it sucks doesnt it...

ive been keeping the tissues near me...
it hasnt been a good day

what were ur other results... did u get rejected/accepted/waitlisted,....?

Curious where you read that? Anywhere reliable? We heard that applications to Mx were up hideously this year, but hadn't heard anything about over accepting. How can they know that until they figure out the 'yield' on or before 4/10?

You can PM me and ask, I don't want to post everything online.

aussie, could you pm me as well, because i go to mx...

Applications were up 6% this year versus 2007. Nearly 1000 apps for 100 slots.

I understand that Middlesex gets a ton of day student applicants for a handful of slots. Prepparent or others do you have an idea of how that "nearly 1000 apps for 100 slots" breaks down for day and boarding?

oh god....100/1000 ....I think they say in the letter that MX accept a handful of applicants from the waitlist...could it be possible this year? I heard that Taft will accept only 1-2/50 applicants on the waitlist(maximum)...Hic...Can't imagine how waitlist of MX works!

inquiring mind

Sorry but I do not have that info

some schools do not go to the waitlist at all. this is important to keep in mind when deciding where to accept

The problem with this guessing game is that it is just that, a guess. There's no way for Mx's (or anyone else's) admissions office to know this early who is going to decline and who is going to accept. In a given year for example 5 people might get off a given waitlist. Even if you can rely on this as the gospel you still have to break it down by (a) male vs female and (b) grade. It does a waitlisted boy hoping for a 9th grade slot no good if five girls turn down slots, just as it does him no good if five 10th grade boys turn down slots.

Like most everyone else, we will hold off accepting our offer at school A until 4/10 in hopes that a slot will open up at her preference school B where she's waitlisted. This means that the slot stays filled at A until 4/10. Suddenly on 4/11 and 4/12 schools will have a better idea which slots are filled, spaces may open up, and we may be faced with an invitation to come off the waitlist after we've plunked down the $ deposit elsewhere.

IMHO, I would not count on the waitlist at any school. I have a D at MX and another who was waitlisted and rather thn hope for a change in her status we moved on to the schools that accepted her.

I agree with prepparent. My third child was waitlisted at three schools and we also moved on with the schools that accepted him.

Dr Nancie, info from either D or website. It may have been from parent section so you can access.

i know a few people at mx right now who got off the waitlist

On 12/1/07 Yankees also said

"yo 27%, 31%- accepted st. pauls, exeter. rejected-andover, groton. i go to exeter."
