Waitlisted as well. I've 3 waitlists now, including one each from Colby and Reed.
I thought Middlebury would straight out reject me, so I'm kind of relieved I'm not rejected.

Does anyone know if being accepted off the waitlist would mean a less generous financial aid package?

It can mean that at schools with limited endowments (i.e., need-aware). In the coming months some schools will be juggling available seats and available aid dollars, trying to end up with both at zero. If the money runs out before the seats run out, it could mean a less generous fin aid package, or even no more offers to fin aid applicants.

hey guys! im sorry that you all were waitlisted but did you know you can do stuff to get off of the waitlist? if midd (or any other school) is your first choice then you can truly work to let the admissions office know you wanna be there and that midd or ____ college/university is indeed your first choice. the class of 08 is the largest graduating class of the US in two decades!!! so that means LOOTSSS of record number apps across the board at schools. many schools waitlist even overqualified ppl cuz they fear that they are not the person's first choice school...they think that maybe youd pick an ivy or some other top tier school to go to. but obviously it hurts to be waitlisted by your first choice school so i would be writing the admissions officers to really show interest! get some extra rec's too!

remember- it IS possible to get off the waitlist. midd has 570 spots for the freshman class and they accepted 1,020 something or somewhere close to there. they got over 7000 apps too, highest in the school's history.

I was waitlisted at Middlebury and BC but got into Wesleyan. I don't really understand what makes one person more qualified than the other when everyone is so talented to begin with. I think it just goes to show this whole process is one big game.

Still waiting to hear from Tufts, Colby, and Bowdoin

Also, and this is probably a dumb question, but are we automatically on the waitlist or do we have to contact them and accept a place on the list?

lonnie117, You can check your Colby decision online. Just log in using your user ID (it should be a number) and password that you were assigned at the beginning of the app process. Good luck!!

You must tell them you'd like to remain on the waitlist. There should be a response card included with your letter.

I got the letter yesterday, a small green card was included. I am planning to stay on the waitlist and hope; but if they accept me, does it mean I will have to enroll? I got a very generous Fin Aid package from one other school and if Midd accepted me but gave me less money, I'd go back.

@ andykcom- Middlebury meets your full need and even if you are international its need blind, so I guess you will get the aid you are asking for if you get in..

I think the process works like this. You've sent your deposit to another school. If you are accepted off of Middlebury's waitlist, they will contact you in a month or two and offer you a spot in the first year class. They will also inform you what your financial aid package would be. If you don't like the fin. aid package, you say "no" to Middlebury and matriculate at the school that you sent your deposit to. If you like Midd's offer, then you accept a spot in the class and inform the other school that you're withdrawing your acceptance of their offer, thereby forfeiting your deposit.

Wow! It's amazing that you guys got on the waitlist. You seem really incredible and well rounded students. I know people that didn't even turn in their essays and still got in! I don't see how this is fair...except that the student was a minority. Unfortunately, Middlebury as well as other liberal arts colleges probably give up their spots for less qualified URMs in order to "increase diversity." Good luck, I hope you guys get in.

any international here received their letter?
do we email back of fax to get a place on the waitlist?
I'm afraid I won't gett the letter before may 1
