Quotes from the article in The California Tech, 5/12/08:

"For the third year in a row, Caltech admissions bumped the ratio up a notch, marking the 40% women class of 2012 as the most feminine in its history....This year is also the first that the female yield matched the mens at 35%."

"As of Friday, 236 students had accepted admission to Caltech, just six above the target of 230.
However, Bischoff expects that number to drop by at least 8 students as the Ivy Leagues dig deeply into their waiting lists, prompting Caltech to follow suit.
We may melt more than normal,
said Bischoff. Weve started making offers to some students on the wait list.

"Harvard will take some 150 to 175 students off of its waiting
list, and Princeton and UPenn will each take up to 90, according to a NY Times article last week. Though Caltech doesnt share a large overlap with Harvard or Princeton, their waiting lists will likely pull students from MIT and Stanford, bigger competitors to Caltech."

hey everybody. It's my first time posting but I have been following the thread for a couple of weeks. I just checked my mail and I got in off the waitlist at Caltech! I was hoping to get off the waitlist for Harvard more though. I didn't really win any awards and all I sent in was a letter expressing my interest. I never contacted my admissions officer, though I got a call from her two days ago asking if I was still interested. I'm surprised because I don't really have high SAT's or win any awards, so I guess there's still hope for everyone. Didn't get a call or email, just the admit packet.

@Brahmin, i'm a u.s. citizen and all i sent them were two letters of rec. i got the call last wednesday in the evening, and i live in california. however, i don't think i'm going to go to berkeley, caltech is really expensive and quiet, very quiet

what do you guys think about me asking Caltech politely what's up with my application and if not hearing from them yet means I don't have a spot...

You thnk asking them that will be fine? Doesn't create a bad imperssion does it..

I doubt calling will affect your application either way, but I'm pretty sure they have not offered up all of their waitlist spots yet. When they're sure they have no more spots, they'll tell you.

Bad luck mate.. But as jinal says, at least it's over ;) Now you can settle in which ever school you chose (or wait for some other waitlist, then i wish you good luck!)

Wasn't here for a while, so just an update, got my FA package (a while ago), and decided to go right away, the package was great :D i'll try to fix with them some things in september i guess, but it was good enough to accept the offer :D

there's still some movement on the waitlsit i think.. ppl getting of the waitlists on princeton, MIT, etc so there could still be spots.. just hold on, and hope for the best ;)

Still not contact from Caltech in the past month and a half. No response to e-mails that I've sent either. I heard that Caltech wasn't taking anyone when everywhere else was taking tons of people so I kind of gave up on it, and now I find out that they are actually taking people.

Anyone know how many are left on the list and how many have been rejected from the list? (Sorry, I'm a numbers guy)

It kinda sucks that I've already graduated and don't know where I'm going for sure. I'm one of the 64 left on the MIT wait list too.

Cnidarian...approx. when did u get ur letter? I'm still waiting but really hope I get a reply soon so that I can move on....not really expecting anything though
