Today I got a call from my regional admissions officer. She said that they were going into committee next week to decide on who to accept from the waitilist and they were just checking to see if the "select group" of finalists in their waitlist are still interested in attending Columbia before they make their picks.

I didn't get a call :(. Are you waitlisted for the College or for SEAS? Also, would you happen to know how to get in touch with the reigional admissions officer? Their information doesnt seem to be on the Columbia website.

Does anyone here know Columbia's yield rate? Princeton's board had an article on its yield rate...that pretty much killed all hopes of making it off the waitlist.

Yeah I sent in a one-page letter along with my reply card about my more recent accomplishments and desire to attend Columbia.

I'm not sure where you can find their phone numbers, I met mine when she visited my school so we are chums haha. The admissions officer told me that there are openings for College and SEAS... 40 is a decent amount! Best of luck to all of you.

well so much for them not ranking their waitlistees. But then again, how could you go through 1500 students for only 40 spots in a couple of days...

I was waitlisted too but the coach is helping me get in. I dont know however if it's going to help much. Does anyone know about athletic support during the waitlist?

If you are good enough, then I suppose it could help a little, but otherwise, it's just like sending in another rec, which they were against (weren't they?).

so today my mom started her new job...at Columbia! This, of course, makes me a Columbia employee child! Since I made it onto the waitlist without any help from my mom, lots of people (read: NOT ME lol) think that for Columbia it's a no-brainer to take me in. now, i sent in a letter saying how badly i wanted to go, etc, and also when I was bored in AP Bio i wrote a play about being waitlisted, and how colleges always seem to accept people that don't want to go there, and waitlist the people that really DO want to go there. It's set IN my AP Bio class, and half the classmates are the chorus and constantly start breaking into well-known songs with new lyrics. For example, to the tune of the Friends theme: "So no one told you life was gonna be this way/You wanted Brown but what you've got is UVA/but your best friend got into Brown last week/he told you yesterday he can't stand Providence...or liberal freaks/you say, "I'll go there for you!"" ad nauseum lol YEAH i'm INSANE. But my question is - do I send another letter? If so, do I mention that i'm now an employee kid? OR do I call to let them know my change in status? Or should my mom just ask the Registrar or whoever?

fanimal, you are the only one I know that got a call...I hope that I'm still in the race for a spot. I sent in a bunch of photos of Columbia that I made into postcards and greeting cards. I sent in a letter and visited the campus all the way from Washington state. I then sent in a final letter to my regional officer my experience there and how I really want to go and how I'd be a benefactor to the community there.

This thread is making me lose all hope. I really thought I'd get accepted off the waitlist...sigh...I want to get in so badly...
