Thought you'd want to know this update on the waitlist

So my dad called Columbia today to ask about the waitlist, and the man said that they will be giving us a definitive answer in two weeks.

Hmm. Two weeks isn't long. It's a relief from what they said earlier about the end of June.

I've been counting, and as a total, I've noted 18 people on CC have been taken off the waitlist since May 1st.

That is QUITE a lot.

Still incredibly hopeful.

Thanks for the update!

Oh and one more thing, they have NO open spots right now, but they "are confident we will be digging into the wait list"

What kind of answer will we get? Accepted, rejected, ore extended waitlist, I assume?

I don't think there will be an extended waitlist at this point. The deadline for the transer admits to accept is May 30th. Those will be the last open spots in my opinion.

that's REALLY depressing. they're going to take like two people within the next two weeks, and i have a feeling i'm not going to be one of them.

Ugh...this sucks!

All the spots are filled?! Oh my GOD! This is seriously depressing. So that means my dream of going to Columbia crashes right here.

Oh man.

This sucks.

How many people DID Columbia accept off the list? I counted 19 on CC (not just people ON CC but people on CC who know other people who got accepted), but that's about it.

^eeek. that sucks. see i never hold on to hope because it never works :|

sorry

grade inflation: You're so right. Hoping never works. Maybe it's embedded in the law of the universe.

in the email that we received from Columbia, why did it ask us to send a supplemental essay by "replying" to the email? did you guys send your supplemental essay by mail, or did u send it by responding to that email? thanks

quag_mire: I emailed it, and I think most other people did too because they said that their counselors wrote back. Mine DIDN'T write back. Argh.

Well, my counselor wrote back when I e-mailed her. Maybe you should try again Chew-acca? I think whast they meant by no open slots is that they have no room right now, but they're still waiting to see how everything changes because people are still getting off waitlists from other schools. Just like we're waiting on Columbia, I'm sure some Columbia admits are still waiting to hear back from other schools. Some transfers could still decline too.

andromeda, did you email your letter by *responding* to that email, or did you email it to your regional admissions representatives? I sent my letter by mail much before May 1st, and it was addressed to the undergrad admissions office, and I also emailed that letter after getting that email we all got, by replying to the email....still haven't heard anything...im starting to lose interest in Columbia now lol

quag_mire: I sent it by replying to the e-mail, and then I sent a mail to my counselor asking her if she'd received it. I didn't get a single reply and I haven't heard a thing since that fated letter on the 15th.

I know what you mean, I've sort of resigned to the fact that it ain't gonna happen and I'm trying to get accustomed to the college I'll be attending.

Yeah, I already know it's not going to happen. I gave up on going to New York when I saw NYU's financial aid. =/

actually no, I've lost interest in Columbia now in the sense that I'm starting to find faults with it lol, which I didn't do before....for example, I'm starting to think that Columbia's core is a bi***, and other random reasons to convince myself that NYU is a better choice =p

^ woot NYU Stern 2012!!

NYU's financial aid is horrible. That's why I'm still hoping that I get into Columbia coz NYU is going to be really hard to pay for =( But whatevs.
