Waitlist Myths Debunked, Is ChemE a popular major?

I called to see if they received my application update and asked if they started re-reviewing the applications yet. They said they don't do that. Instead, they look for the waitlisted people that have the major they need. So I guess all these application updates and letters are pretty much useless.

I also did ask them if the priority waitlist has any kind of advantage over regular decision. THey said that Rice looks for the majors it wants in the priority waitlist pile first, then in the others. Sadly, this doesn't help people who are in impact majors.

So does anyone know what majors are typically received in dearth at Rice? I would guess that since Rice is known for its science/engineering, that those are popular majors? Do a lot of people enroll in Chemical Engineering?

Do you think that Rice would make exceptions for people they want to admit (not that I am that desirable in the first place) but aren't needed major-wise?

Trust me, letters of continual interest help as does updates on awards and stuff. Sure they look at majors but if they see you, someone who has grown over the months and have shown continual interest in Rice versus someone who's just academically impressive, they will look at you first. Ri just can't outright tell you this themselves b/c of lawsuits and stuff. I'm sure sending them praises and stuff will only help you, not hurt you. And they'll remember your name

I sure hope so because I applied to the popular College of Natural Sciences because I'm considering being a bio major. Do you guys think it would matter if I also checked off the history and anthropology majors?

There is hope. My son was waitlisted last year and had applied to Natural Sciences. He received a call shortly after May 1 offering him a spot. Keep your chin up!
