Waitlist question??

When you receive a decision and it turns out to be a wait list, is that all you receive? Just a letter saying you were wait listed or do you also get a financial aid award/statement along with it?

You usually don’t get a financial aid award until you are accepted. So…of you have been put on a waitlist, you would not receive a financial aid award unless you get off the waitlist.

@thumper1 – so if a college is asking me for financial aid stuff, it likely means i got accepted not wait listed?

small LAC btw

Some colleges send out reminders to students who have incomplete financial aid applications. In other words, they might just be requesting your info so they have it IF you get accepted.

@thumper1 this LAC is need blind though. i read last year a bunch of people who received a personalized, FA email early march got in, so i assume it’s a good sign?

It doesn’t matter if the schools is need blind or need aware. The financial aid department still needs ALL the required submissions so that IF you get accepted, they have everything they need to craft a package for you.

What are they asking of you in these emails you are receiving?

Really…until you get the “congratulations you are accepted” letter…you don’t know for sure.

like, if i am to be wait listed would they ask for all my super specific info?

okay

They ask all FA applicants for the amount and kind of information needed to make a FA decision.

Agree with MiddKid. The school needs ALL of your info if that is what they use when they craft an award. They want their ducks lined up.

Some schools would ask you to verify if you want to be on the waitlist.

@thumper1 True, but I looked at a bunch of other colleges last year and everybody who got that SPECIFIC missing FA documents email got in, and i don’t know if it’s coincidence or not. It seems to be a very high correlation. I mean, why else would they give me a personalized email listing everything I missed about 2 weeks before the decision? However, it could just be that this LAC only gets 6,000 applicants.
I don’t want to give myself false hope but it seems like a good sign. I was just wondering if I could be wait listed as well. On their website it states “we give financial aid awards with the Acceptance letter”. Does that mean you don’t get an award if you get wait listed?

You will ONLY get a financial aid award if you get accepted. If you are on the waitlist, you will not get a financial aid award…unless you eventually get accepted. Then you will get your financial aid award with your acceptance.

thank you!!

If you are talking about a selective LAC( Williams, Amherst, Middkeburt, etc) the admissions and financial aid departments operates as 2 separate entities and financial aid does not know what sdmissions is doing.

The financial aid department colleges and prepares packages for all students applying for aid because they don’t know who had been accepted, denied or wait listed. If the school sent you an email for specific stuff , supply it and move forward. You will know in approximately a week what the decision will be
