Hi, I’ve been waitlisted at SUNY Binghamton for the Fall 2009 semester, and had a couple of questions about its waitlist?

On my admissions letter, it stated that I was placed on an unranked waitlist.

Are there two different types of waitlists (an unranked waitlist & a ranked waitlist)

If there are two different types of waitlists, is it even worth pursuing a waitlist since Binghamton will be only taking students from its ranked waitlist?

Should I write a letter to admissions expressing my interest in Binghamton, or would an e-mail suffice since it would be quicker?

Does anyone know how many students (percentage or number of) that Binghamton will take for the Fall 2009 semester?

An unranked waitlist means that as slots open, people are RANDOMLY selected from the waitlist. There is no preference. This basically means they consider all waitlist members equally qualified to take vacant slots for the respective colleges within Binghamton.

I do not believe there are two different waitlists. If you have any doubts, the best person to contact would be your regional counselor at Binghamton.

It depends how badly you want to go to Binghamton. However, if they have a truly unranked waitlist .. your efforts would be in vain.

No one knows how many students they will take .. due to the economic recession, a lot of public universities have completely redone their formulas to try to ensure there isn't excessive overcrowding next year.

Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list: 763 (100%) Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 664 (87%)
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 97 (14.6%)

Last year, 87% of students offered a place on the waiting list accepted a spot. Of those 87%, 14.6% were accepted from the waiting list. This year, it is very likely that the number of students accepting a slot will increase, and the number of students accepted from the waiting list will decrease.

I recently graduated from Binghamton and before my freshmen year, I was initially waitlisted and then I got into Binghamton off of the waitlist. Let me know if you have any questions for me.
