Update and answers:
At this moment there is no official update on wait list decisions. The Admissions staff has met and will continue to meet over the next few days to decide whether any students will be admitted off the wait list. Continue to check back for additional updates to come.

If you want accurate answers to your questions about the Hopkins Wait List, I strongly encourage you to post them to that discussion thread. Additionally updates will be posted there when they become available.

I think that's the summer melt. So I guess I don't really get it. If you've already met your enrollment figures and protected against the summer melt, why are you still looking for more people? Is it to protect against a low-yield for people accepted off of the waitlist? Is it to protect specific enrollment figures (i.e. getting enough computer scientists or enough engineers)?

I saw last year that you did a first round for 40 people and then 40 after that round. I'm not trying to be critical or anything - I just am a little confused about the process.

I wouldn't be surprised if JHU lost a few people. Harvard announced a few weeks ago that they were planning to admit about 150-175 students off their waitlist, and undoubtedly, many of those students will also have accepted offers from other top schools. If those school lose students, regardless of enrollment figures, they're going to have to pull students off their WL as well. So don't lose hope if you're on there.

al6200:
I am not sure why you are confused. We have met our FINAL enrollment goal ... the number of students we want to arrive in September. That does not mean we will not lose students over the summer - what is known as the summer melt - and what Kyuu alludes to in her post. Therefore, we need to admit a handful of students off the wait list so we continue to maintain our final enrollment target over the summer.

Also, what we did last year has nothing to do with what we do this year. You really should read the Wait List Discussion Thread update again because it is pretty clear how the process works at Hopkins.

Congrats to those who have been accepted off the waitlist. Would you mind sharing:
Which state are you from?
Did you apply with interest in a specific major or as undecided?

Thank you Admissions Daniel for the updated information. Are you at liberty to divulge how many of the 30 people have accepted and how many have rejected JHU's waitlist offers up to this point?

Hot off the press from AdmissionsDaniel as of May 21st:

"WAIT LIST UPDATE

Not much new news to report from what I wrote on May 9th. The number of offers of admissions to wait list students this year stands at just about 30 students. We continue to be deliberate about our choices on whether or not we need to admit additional students from the wait list. All signs currently point to either a small handful of additional offers in the next week or no additional offers at this time. I wish I had more to report, but nothing has been finalized. Continue to check the Wait List Discussion Thread for any additional news.

What ever decisions we make in the next week or so, it is apparent that we will once again choose to release the majority of our wait list some time in early June. Additionally, we will most likely decide to hold a small percentage of students on an extended summer wait list. For details on how the summer wait list works, I suggest reading this update post from last year. Continued patience is much appreciated."

Thank you AdmissionsDaniel for keeping us apprised on a regular basis (not like most other college waitlists)!

There is no additional news about the Johns Hopkins wait list at this time. The Admissions Staff is still considering a number of options. When decisions are made, we will post information to this discussion thread. There is no current time line related to when decisions will be rendered.

Once a final decision is made about the Johns Hopkins wait list, all students who submitted the wait list card and chose to "remain on the wait list" will be contacted regarding their final status."

I've been getting a lot of questions about any progress with the wait list, and unfortunately there is no news. We do expect to make decisions by the end of the month about whether we need to admit additional students off the wait list (probably not) and whether we will create a small extended summer wait list (most likely). Nothing is set in stone yet but do expect to hear from us about final decisions about our wait list plans by the end of the month.

Sorry I can not offer any additional information at this time."
